The distance from Yekaterinburg to Kurgan is 370 kilometers. Airplanes do not fly to such distances, so only train, bus and car options should be considered.
Kurgan is not the most interesting city in Russia, it is worth visiting on the way to Kazakhstan or simply to replenish your collection of seen Russian regional centers.
Ride on the bus
Buses from Yekaterinburg to Kurgan depart from the northern bus station from 5 am to 10 pm and at 2 am. The point of their arrival is the bus station of Kurgan, which is located next to the railway station. In this sense, Kurgan is similar to Petropavlovsk and Yekaterinburg and differs, for example, from Tyumen.
A ticket from Yekaterinburg to Kurgan will cost from 700 rubles, therefore, the fare is about 2 rubles per kilometer. The trip will take 6.5-7.5 hours. On the way, the bus makes several short stops: in Kargopolye, Kataysk, Dolmatovo, Shadrinsk.
In the opposite direction, from Kurgan to Yekaterinburg, buses run from 7 am to 11 pm.
Railway option
Railway communication on the branch between Yekaterinburg and Kurgan is not so active. Trains run much less frequently than on the neighboring Trans-Siberian Railway (Ekaterinburg-Tyumen branch).
The train departure schedule from the station to Yekaterinburg is as follows:
- 00:18. A fast train formed by Russian Railways follows from Moscow to Petropavlovsk. Walks every other day. The journey takes almost 6 hours. Its stops are similar to bus stops, it takes a maximum of 5 minutes in Shadrinsk.
- 04:52. Rare trailer from St. Petersburg to Petropavlovsk, 9 hours on the road.
- 05:53. Also a trailer from St. Petersburg, but on the road for 10 hours.
- 18:50. Convenient interregional train, seats only, 5 hours on the road.
- 18:58. Passing trains from Kazan to Tashkent and Almaty. They drive 6.5 hours. They rarely go. Formed by the railways of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The cost of a train ticket from Yekaterinburg to Kurgan depends on the type of car, fare schedule and various promotions. Estimated prices are:

In the opposite direction, from Kurgan to Yekaterinburg, the departure schedule is as follows:

- 07:13. Trailer car to St. Petersburg.
- 10:45. Rare passing trains of Kazakh and Uzbek formations.
- 10:58. Trailer cars to Petersburg.
- 21:19. The train from Petropavlovsk to Moscow, despite the long distance, has seated cars.
Drive a car
The route "Yekaterinburg-Kurgan" by car can be traveled in about 5 hours - depending on the traffic and the weather. You need to leave along the E-22 to Kosulino and then turn onto the R-354 towards Kamensk-Uralsky. After this city, the route leads to the Kurgan region. To get to Kurgan you need to go through Kataysk, Dolmatovo and Kargopolye.
A more exotic variant is also possible. From Yekaterinburg, you need to get to Tyumen along the E-22 highway. On the Tyumen bypass there will be a sign to Kurgan. This is where you need to turn off, then move to your destination through the regional center Isetskoye. Thus, the route will be 530 kilometers long, but along the way you can stop by Tyumen or, for example, the Verkhny Bor resort near it.
Why go to Kurgan?
The city is not very interesting. Its museum fund is inferior to all its neighbors (Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen), except for Petropavlovsk, which is located in Kazakhstan.
Typical museums worth visiting: local history and art, as well as the Decembrists and Aviation Museum.
In summer you can ride a children's railway train at the Central Park of Culture and Culture.
Slightly south of Kurgan is an ostrich farm with a petting zoo.
From this little-known regional center you can go to the village of Chastoozerye, which is interesting not only for its lakes, but alsomajestic cathedral and monuments to Yesenin and Russia.
