Baidarskie gate - a pass in the mountains, going through the main cascade in the Crimea. Through it you can leave the valley, which is called the Crimean Switzerland, and get to the southern coast of the peninsula.
Creation
Baidarskie gates - a point where there is a nearby road for cars Y alta - Sevastopol, built in 1837-1848. The initiator of its creation was Governor-General Mikhail Vorontsov, who at that time was in charge of the Novorossiysk Territory.
On the local pass there is a unique architectural monument Baydar Gates, the history of which is quite interesting. It was created in 1848. The project was created by architect Carl Ashliman. The Baydar gates were erected, timing the opening date just in time for the end of construction work on the road from Y alta to Sevastopol. And the result truly exceeded all expectations.
Building
Over time, this point has become one of those attractions with which Y alta attracts tourists.
Baydar gates look like a large portico, the components of which are blocks. The main building material for them was limestone, which is very common in this area.
Cornicethe gate is complex in its structure. On both sides, the portico is surrounded by rectangular pedestals made of the same material. By the way, thanks to them, a sample of the classical type of structure acquired monumentality. The cabinet on the right has a space with an area of 30 square meters.
You can admire the surrounding landscape from two observation platforms, climbing them to the top of the propylaea - you will walk along a magnificent flight of stairs. The view that the Baydar Gates provide to their visitors is beautiful. The church and the village of Foros, as well as the local valley, will be in full view, capturing the imagination with their beauty. This is a grandiose panorama - few places can get in touch with such magnificence.
Where to stay
In the period up to 1917, with the subsequent resumption in the 1920s and 1930s, two rather inferior hotels operated here. The first was on the left side of the gate, and the second - directly behind them. Nearby one could find a post office where travelers could stay for a while in a special room. Now the need for an overnight stay at this place has disappeared, and there are no more hotels.
On the other hand, the Baydarsky Gate has a popular restaurant complex "Shalash" nearby, where you can have a delicious meal after you satisfy your aesthetic and cognitive needs.
Road
You can get to the Baydarsky Gate pass if you go between the mountains Chelebi and Chkhu-Bair, whose height is respectively 647 and 705 meters in the eastern part. The item itself has altitude 503 m from sea level.
Observation decks open the eyes of tourists to a beautiful landscape. In ancient times, wanderers often made stops at local hotels, since the path at that time was quite long, and for those traveling to Y alta, the Baidar Gates were the place of rest.
How to get from Sevastopol to the famous pass, and now many know. From the highway leading to Y alta, you need to proceed to the Vorontsovsky highway from the church building of Christ's Resurrection. Then it remains only to rise.
When you make this journey, you will definitely want to refresh yourself with local pasties from the famous "Shalash". In the summer, you can buy souvenirs here. Wooden and stone crafts, sets of essential oils, interesting literature, beautiful postcards and much more are waiting for you.
Stunning beauty
This place can truly be considered a precious pearl of the Crimean mountains, despite the fact that this point is not so high. However, this cannot be called the most important criterion for assessing attractions. Much more important is the aesthetic pleasure that you get by climbing the pass.
Many people come to see the gate itself. On paper, this point was never recognized as an architectural monument, however, having been here, it is hard to agree with this. After all, everything seen here causes the deepest admiration.
The most important highlight can be called a layout that allows an inexpressible feeling to capture the souls of those who comehere to relax on the observation deck.
Standing next to the fence, you may feel as if the ground is moving from under your feet, and you are floating in the air, looking to the side. All this is due to the height above sea level, the wind, as well as the stunning landscapes of the Crimea.
Strategic value
Previously, this gate was closed when the earth was shrouded in darkness or bad weather. Also in the 19th century, robbery was quite common, which was perpetrated by lovers of easy money on the roads. Few people wanted to meet them, so such a barrier was very useful.
This item was strategically important during the Second World War. In the autumn of 1941, a detachment of border troops, commanded by Terletsky, held fascist soldiers here for 24 hours. Thus, the forces of the Red Army were able to withdraw to Sevastopol. And those border guards that survived joined the partisan detachment, but the command was captured by the Nazis and was shot.
Terletsky was an outstanding warrior, in whose honor a monument was erected in the village of Foros. The German occupiers had a plan to blow up the gates. Fortunately, for some reason, it never came to fruition.
Now local attractions can enrich the minds of visitors in cultural and historical terms. A lot has happened here. Once here, you can feel like a part of the tsarist era with its beautiful palaces and picturesque estates.
