The port of Rostov connects several transport routes. They provide ships with access to the five seas. In 2009, the river port was elevated to the status of a sea port. Today it is the largest in the south of Russia. The port's cargo turnover is almost 18 million tons annually. Since 1998, it has become possible to receive foreign vessels. More than six thousand are issued every year.

Port History

Rostov port is one of the oldest Russian ports. It was founded in 1750 and almost immediately became the center of trade in southern Russia. Thanks to the development of shipping, the region developed rapidly. According to historical data, it originated from Temernitsky.

But soon the port of Rostov becomes an increasingly important object. The turnover of goods and cargo increased rapidly. A quarter of Russian iron exports passed through the port of Rostov. And many goods were imported. In 1768 construction began on a new wooden shipyard.

In the 19th century. the port of Rostov became the main Russian exporter of grain. It's strongaccelerated the development of shipping. And in 1839 it switched to steam. At the beginning of the 20th century Rostov port has become the largest in the Azov-Black Sea basin. Transshipment of goods is carried out by railway passing nearby. In 1912, more and more ships began to call at the port. At the end of the 20th century new port capacities were required. At that time, the port had only three cargo terminals. Today, more than 19 companies are already operating.

Port description

The port has 4 cargo areas. The first is on the right bank of the Don, the rest are on the left (Aksai, Rostov ladles and in the Zarechnaya industrial area). The port is fully equipped for forwarding and reloading ships. The capacity of the facility allows you to process up to 16 ships at once, the carrying capacity of which is up to 5000 tons.

Thanks to the existing icebreaker fleet, the port in Rostov operates all year round. On the territory of the facility there is a border checkpoint that opens and closes the state border. As well as TU Rospotrebnadzor and Rosselkhoznadzor. And "River Port" - a customs post. The area of the port is 100 hectares. There are modern mooring complexes on its territory.

More than 30 units of special equipment are used for loading and unloading operations. Of these, 14 cranes. Each with a carrying capacity of up to 65 tons. The area of open warehouses is 90,000 square meters. A separate customs zone and three border checkpoints have been equipped. Safety of navigation

Since the port has access to five seas,increased security is needed. Moreover, the water area is adjacent to direct access to inland waterways. As part of the interaction with other nearby ports, there is a constant exchange of information about navigation, regime changes, emergencies, etc.

Security is ensured by the Port State Control Inspectorate. Its tasks include a wide range of activities (checking documents, creating orders, instructions, etc.). In the port of Rostov, a mandatory thorough check is established not only for foreign, but also for Russian ships. Pilotage is carried out by twelve companies.

The introduction of new technologies in the information sphere (receiving and transmitting information in electronic form, ship traffic schedules, etc.) significantly increases the level of security. It is especially important to bring to the attention of all interested parties any changes in the hydrological regime down the Don.

Video surveillance and radio communications

Today, the transmission of storm warnings, weather forecasts and other information is communicated via coast radio. To improve communication, it is planned to install more modern equipment. Rostov port has twelve automatic observation posts. Thanks to them, round-the-clock monitoring of the situation is carried out. Including for the timely prevention of illegal interference.

Ongoing and new projects

600 people work in Rostov Port OJSC. As a motivation for employees, they are dischargedcash prizes, vouchers to recreation centers are issued, diplomas are awarded, etc. The company develops innovative projects: the manufacture of pleasure craft, floating restaurants and boats. There are no analogues on the territory of the Russian Federation yet.

Further development of the port is planned as part of an investment project. Funds from the federal and regional budgets have already been partially allocated for it. Project Goals:

• construction of a new transport and logistics hub is planned;
• creating conditions for transferring exports to Russian ports;
• providing a full range of world-class services (service, transport and logistics);
• solving environmental problems (creating a sanitary zone, reducing harmful emissions).

The RIF plant, which is part of the Rostov Port group of companies, has already begun to implement some projects. The construction of 2 lead passenger ships (of the catamaran type) for 250 passenger seats is underway. There is an active development of new technologies, which have no analogues in the Russian Federation yet.
