Dolgaya is a mountain located in the Sverdlovsk region on the eastern side of the middle Urals. This peak, of course, is a landmark of the city of Nizhny Tagil and is located in the western part. Dolgaya acts as a component of the mountain range, called the Merry Mountains. Along them runs the border, conditionally dividing Europe and Asia.

Short description and hydronym

Mount Dolgaya (Tagil) received its name for its appearance, having an oblong shape, which stretches from north to south. Its height at the highest point is almost 380 meters, but the lowest part is located at 250 meters.

This facility is the main venue for training and international and Russian competitions in skiing. It has jumps of various heights, ranging from 40m to 120m, with the longest run measuring 720m.

Although the Dolgaya Mountain is part of the ridge, it has a separate location between the valleys of the Irgina and Zyurzya rivers. There is a village not far from the mountain, about 6 km. Also interesting is the fact that the upland has a greenish and pockmarked hue due to the quartzdiorites that form its basis.

Snow in these places falls as early as September, forming a permanent cover that lasts until late spring, depending on weather conditions. But even in June, you can find small patches of ice on the peaks or in crevices.

Slope relief

Each slope has its own gentleness, and the most even is the southern descent with meadows located in the lowland, but the northern one, on the contrary, is steeper. The most steep is the western descent. It is distinguished by rocky ledges. The east slope is a combination slope, which is ideal for the ski slopes laid out here.

There is information about the location of an iron mine near the mountain, and it is also told about the appearance of the object. The document says that the mountain has gentle slopes covered with spruce and pine trees, with a domed top. There is also a description of the nearby territory, and it is mentioned that the mountain is divided into the 1st and 2nd.

Plant world

Long Mountain is a botanical monument of nature, on the territory of which there is a rich flora and fauna. Since rare plants grow in its open spaces, in particular, hare grass, or spring adonis.

The flora is represented mainly by coniferous forest growing throughout the area, with the exception of the locations of tracks and sports facilities, that is, the very top and a small place on the eastern slope.

From afar, Long looks like it's covered in forests, but it's not. On its slopes there are rocky walls that have a dilapidated appearance. There are also small scatterings of stones that look chaotic, but can reach 2 m.

Forests consist of coniferous trees such as pine, fir, spruce; cedar forests can be caught, as well as aspen or birch. The lower cover is represented by various grasses and low shrubs, as well as an abundance of moss and lichen. At the top, there are stunted trees with twisted trunks due to strong winds.

Animal world

Mount Dolgaya (Nizhny Tagil) is distinguished by not very diverse fauna. But still there are various animals. The main representatives are the inhabitants of the taiga, such as elk, lynx, bear. Wolves also live in these places. Squirrels, roe deer, hares come across in forest thickets, and foxes and ermines are considered the most common in these parts. Of the birds, there are black grouse, hazel grouse, capercaillie. Snakes can be found in open areas.

Tourism

Mount Dolgaya is a sought-after place not only among the local population, who likes to spend weekends on the ski slopes, but also among beginner athletes, as well as youth teams. It is in this place that one can meeta large congestion of tourists who come here in order to improve their he alth and take a break from the bustle of the city.

In 2014, a large-scale reconstruction of all tracks and ski jumps was carried out, after which tourism on this hill became especially relevant and in demand. On the territory of the mountain complex there are modern hotel complexes, a stadium for competitions, various ski jumps, which differ not only in height, but also in the level of difficulty, as well as places for renting sports equipment. Everything here is done with an emphasis on comfort. Optionally, you can climb to the ski jumps by walking or using the cable car.

In the summer, when there is no snow cover, on the territory of the mountain you can find entertainment on playgrounds that allow you to play mini-football, tennis, basketball. Also offered are skeet shooting or skiing on the 2.5 km roller ski track.

How to get there?

The long mountain has many advantages, one of which is its geographical location. It is not difficult to find it, since it is located within the city of Nizhny Tagil. You can get to the sports bases by your own car or use public transport. The city has a railway and bus station, as well as an airport nearby, so if you wish, you can come from anywhere in the country.
