Vologda Airport is located ten kilometers from Vologda and is an air transport hub that serves regional flights.
History of the airport
In the twenties of the last century, biplanes were assembled near the village of Kovyrino.
Later, in the thirties, the first passenger planes began to appear in the district. Immediately began the active establishment of a system of regular transportation on the route Arkhangelsk - Moscow. Naturally, the flights were carried out with transfers, which were carried out in the city of Vologda.
Until the end of the seventies, there was a huge passenger flow. Cargo turnover was also quite impressive. Due to such a huge number of flights, the terminal building was overloaded. In addition, due to any minor error of the controllers, collisions of aircraft in the air and on the runway could take place.
Due to the inability of the airport to handle such a large passenger flow, the management decided to close the building, which happened in 1978. At the moment, this territory, called the "old Vologda Airport", is occupied by variouswarehouses.
In 1981, the new airport building was commissioned. The airline began its active development, for the transportation of passengers several new models of aircraft with greater capacity began to be used.
