If you live in Moscow, St. Petersburg or in any other city of our Motherland, but are going to rest in the Crimea, you do not need to cross the Kerch Strait by ferry. Another thing is if you are a resident of the North Caucasus. Or here's a life situation: you arrived in Adler and found that the prices there are beyond your means. Do you want to move to a cheaper Crimea. How? To date, five kilometers of water area between Russia and Ukraine overcomes exclusively by ferry. In the 40s, however, there was a bridge built on a wave of enthusiasm in a record 150 days. But now he's gone. He also stood for a record short time, the result of his crash was by no means a war, but a simple storm. So for now there is no alternative to the ferry.
So, if you do not want to go around (burning more than a dozen liters of gasoline) the entire Sea of Azov, you will have toferry across the Kerch Strait. There are some nuances in such a difficult matter. The first, and most important, perhaps, the problem is the presence of queues. The journey by sea does not take even half an hour, but preparation for loading, as well as the procedure for various control (including customs) at the two borders, eat up the lion's share of time and can pretty much fray your nerves.
And not that the ferry rarely ran through the Kerch Strait. Its schedule is very humane: every hour and a half a ship departs from the port of Krym, and, of course, from the port of Kavkaz. And in the high season, they even allow additional flights. The traffic of these gigantic shuttles is so busy that even before sailing you will meet a ship entering the harbor for new passengers. The reason for the queues is the extremely slow work of the border and customs services. To be fair, it must be said - both Russian and Ukrainian.
Moreover, if you buy a train or bus ticket Kerch-Novorossiysk, it will not free you from waiting in line. Unless you will not pay for the crossing, since its cost is already included in the ticket price. But this is not such a lot of money: an adult passenger pays 37 hryvnia, a child pays half as much. But for those traveling on their own vehicles, a ferry across the Kerch Strait will become more expensive. The price for transporting a car depends on its length. The lowest fare is UAH 176 for cars not exceeding 4 meters 20 centimeters in length.
So, if you are going to cross the Kerch Strait by ferry, you first need to buy a ticket. It is also your pass to the port. Before you enter its territory, stock up on water (and food), because there will be nowhere to buy them. Any photo and video filming is also prohibited. It's funny, but having boarded the ship, you can click with impunity on the camera from a convenient deck angle everything that was forbidden to be filmed from the pier. In addition, a webcam was recently installed in the port buildings, and now you can watch everything that is happening there in real time.
To cross the Kerch Strait by ferry, you must have a valid passport and the necessary documents for the car with you. The border guards take your papers to their booth, and the customs officers begin to inspect the car. Carefully make sure that the passport is stamped with the date of entry into the territory of a foreign state - otherwise you will not have trouble when leaving. And the last thing: after arranging the car in the indicated place on the deck, do not forget to put it on the handbrake.
