The Freedom Tower in New York, photo of which is presented below, is the main building in the complex being built on the island of Manhattan, known as the World Trade Center. The total area of the facility exceeds 65 thousand square meters. The skyscraper was built in its northwestern part. It should be noted that until 2001, the twin towers were located here, which were tragically destroyed as a result of a terrorist attack. The whole world remembers that incident to this day. To honor the memory of all those who died that day, the US government decided that the Freedom Tower should be built on this site.
First projects
A few months after the destruction of the twin towers in the United States, a heated discussion began regarding the further exploitation of their former territory. In 2002, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which was the owner of the rights to this land, announced an open tender to determine how the site could be used. Numerous projects that were proposed were perceived by the publicextremely negative. As a result, at the end of the same year, the organization held another competition. Daniel Libeskind's proposal was the winner. And his draft was repeatedly revised in the future.
Final draft
The final look of the skyscraper was presented to the public in 2006. Almost immediately, representatives of the New York police said that the Freedom Tower should be better protected. In order to improve the safety of the structure, the designers decided to use concrete in the construction of the lower level. Its height was 57 meters. On the other hand, many critics insisted that this part of the skyscraper should not look like a bunker. To solve this problem, numerous glass elements were used in the facade decoration.
Construction
The construction of the new structure began in December 2006, when the first steel columns were installed at its base. It is planned that three tall office buildings and one residential building will be erected on the territory of the complex in the future. The city government wants to surround the memorial dedicated to the tragic events, opened in 2011, with them. The final aspect of the construction was the installation of a metal spire. It weighs 758 tons and has a height of 124 meters. The Freedom Tower in New York was put into operation at the end of last year. As of today, it is the tallest building in the United States (541 meters including the spire).

Design Features
The Freedom Tower has sides, the width of which at the base differs by 61 meters. Thus, the object is characterized by virtually the same parameters as the twin towers destroyed in 2001. The exterior of the skyscraper is made up of several thousand glass elements, which are distinguished by a prism-like shape. In this regard, it seems that the building seems to shine. It should also be noted that the building blended very organically into the surrounding landscape. The construction of the facility was completed at the end of 2013, although it was put into operation a little later.
Interesting facts
OnAt the beginning of the preparatory work, before the installation of steel columns, a commemorative inscription with the name of the building and the emblem of the national flag was attached to the base of the skyscraper.
