The island of Cyprus has long attracted vacationers and travelers with its many and varied sights. The capital Nicosia, located in the center of this heavenly corner of the earth, hospitably welcomes all visitors.

The main city of the island boasts an ancient and interesting history. The Hellenes are excellent sailors, so back in the third century BC they colonized the island of Cyprus. Nicosia appeared around the same time. However, based on recent archaeological excavations, scientists argue that this area was inhabited before. At least one thing is certain: the capital was built on the ruins of an ancient city-state called Ledra.

Today Nicosia is a modern vibrant city, famous for its beautiful parks, luxury hotels, museums, art galleries. It is also the best place for various kinds of conferences.

The island of Cyprus has long been known for its amazing nature. Nicosia, whose sights delight and fascinate, is also a very picturesque city.

The main architectural masterpieces are located insideVenetian walls. They are characterized by a bizarre style that bears the imprint of the influence of different peoples: Venetian, Frankish, Turkish. Cobbled narrow streets create a special atmosphere in which you forget about the passage of time. Not far from the main square, you can visit Laiki Itonia, an old quarter that has preserved its original appearance from the beginning of the twentieth century.

The museums of the city have unique collections that will tell tourists about the history of the island, acquaint them with icon painting, folk art, and painting of different periods. What else is the capital of the state of Cyprus, Nicosia, proud of? First of all, the house of Hadjigeorgakis Kornessios, a person who played a huge role in the history of relations between the Turkish authorities and the Greek community. Inside the building, beautifully preserved period furnishings await you: magnificent carpets, marble columns in a combined Turkish-Byzantine style, and countless fountains in the emerald garden.

Cyprus, Nicosia is a religious city, so here you can visit ancient temples that amaze the imagination with magnificent iconostases. Don't miss the church of Fanaromeni, Tripioti Chrysaliniotissa, St. John's Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral. Here you can not only enjoy the masterpieces of sacred art, but also pray, light a candle for he alth and just find peace of mind.

In addition to the above, I would like to add that the island of Cyprus, Nicosia in particular, is also famous for its huge number ofcozy cafes and shops.

As befits a capital city, Nicosia is well connected with other cities in Cyprus by different modes of transport. Therefore, we can safely consider it a good starting point for further expeditions. However, it is worth considering that the city is considered the capital of two states - the Republic of Cyprus and the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and their border runs with a green line exactly in the middle. For local residents, this is a painful reminder of the terrible conflicts that occur on this basis, but for tourists, this is another interesting attraction. Which, however, may soon disappear, as active negotiations are underway on this matter.
