When a traveler flies to Yakutia, he begins to worry about how this land with harsh nature will meet him. I really do not want to experience the cold in the very first minutes after landing. Will passengers be dropped off the plane in the middle of a field? Where to expect luggage? What conditions can the airport of the city of Yakutsk boast of? Is there any hotel near the air harbor? Our article will tell about this.

It cannot be said that Yakutia (the official name of the Republic of Sakha) was a favorite and popular destination. But many tourists use this airport as a transit point on their way to resorts in Thailand, such as Phuket. What do they say about conditions at the airport? It should be said that the old and new reviews are very different from each other. Maybe the reason is that a new terminal has been put into operation? It opened at the end of June 2012.

Yakutsk Airport: Description

AirportThe Republic of Sakha also has a second, unofficial name - "Tuymaada". This is the name of the valley in which Yakutsk is located. And the name was transferred to the city air terminal. As for its characteristics, quite often we will have to repeat the word "most". After all, Yakutsk is a unique airport in many respects. For example, it is the only test site in the world where new aircraft are tested in natural conditions of low temperatures. And this airport also became the first point from where a flight was made over the Far North of the USSR and Siberia (to Irkutsk). Now the air station has the status of international and federal significance. The airlines "Polar Airlines" and "Yakutia" are based in it. At the moment, the passenger turnover of the airport is 850 thousand people a year. This modest figure is due to the fact that Yakutsk is not a frequently visited city. But the capacity of the airport is seven hundred passengers per hour! So the potential of the air terminal is truly huge.

And three years later, air communication between Irkutsk and Yakutsk was established. The airport in the republic began to be built in 1931 and completed in 1935. Even now, however, in an updated form, it exists in its old place, in the Tuymaada valley. At first, the airport was used as a transport hub between the mines. And for civil aviation, they began to operate it from 1940, when they built a small terminal with rooms for staffand passengers, buffet and weather station. After the end of World War II, regular flights to Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, and Magadan began to operate. An airport hotel was built in 1964. And in 1985 it was replaced by the new Liner Hotel, which is still operating today. After the successful testing of the Boeing 757 at low temperatures, Yakutsk Airport received a new impetus for development. In 1996, a new terminal was opened, which received international status. In 2012, a new terminal was put into operation. The old building has become part of the airport complex.
