Southern Airport. Construction of the largest international aviation complex

For a long time there were talks about the construction of the airport "Yuzhny". But only in 2011, finally, they announced its launch. And soon work began on the reconstruction of the project. For the construction of this object, a place was allocated in the Rostov region, located not far from the regional center.

Donets have long dreamed of taking the existing airport (rather old and dilapidated) out of the city, especially because it has long been captured by the city, surrounded by high-rise buildings. After the decision to build a new air port is made, this wish of the citizens begins to come true.

Some historical facts

Back in 1971, they started talking about moving the old airport outside the million-plus city, but the MGA of the USSR did not approve this project. And for a long 40 years he was hidden under the cloth. The old terminal, being squeezed into a ring by the city, had no chance to develop further. This became one of the weighty reasons (along with the fact that in 2018 inthe city will host the World Cup) that nevertheless the government decided to build an air gate called "South".

The construction of the Yuzhny airport began in 2014. Although this project was mentioned back in 2011, when the number of flights increased sharply, and the existing airport was no longer able to cope with them.

It was decided to build the airport in the vicinity of Rostov-on-Don. This is the Aksai district, located next to the Don 4 highway, which goes from Moscow to the southern part of Russia. Here, to the north of the village of Grushevskaya, the site for the construction of the Yuzhny airport was determined. This facility is being built in stages. The first stage of work was the terminal, through which about 8 million passengers will pass. According to the project and plans, the complex will be equipped with 9 air bridges, and its area will reach 50,000 square meters. Here, near the Yuzhny airport, the construction of a cargo terminal with a parking lot is envisaged. The terminal will cover 5,200 square meters, and the parking lot will accommodate about 2,500 convenient parking spaces.

The scale of the international port is simply amazing in its scope. Airport "Yuzhny" is a construction that takes place under the auspices of high technology and grandiose responsibility. Hundreds of people and more than 200 modern machinesdaily work at the construction site of the century. It is planned that in the future the Platov airport will provide jobs for several thousand people.

At the same time, architects need to master capital in the amount of 25 billion rubles, where 1 billion is the budget money of the region. 10 billion - allocates the federal budget, and 14 billion - private investments. Owner - holding "Airports of Regions". Their activities are based on the construction of new airports in the Russian Federation. Apart from the construction of the Platov air complex, they are implementing a similar project in Saratov.

Provision of transportation

Looking at the map where the construction of the airport is going on, you can immediately understand that the transport support of the airport and the delivery of passengers will be excellent. The preparatory work project was approved and the construction of the road began. Its length will be about 20 kilometers, the asph alt canvas will consist of four lanes. This route will connect the airport with the northern bypass road of Rostov. The cost of building the route will cost the budget another 40 million rubles. The construction of the road is being carried out by JSC GiproDorNII.

Bridge to the sky and connection with other countries

In the summer of 2013, an international architectural competition was held for the construction of the "South" airport, in which 21 bureaus participated. But only 11 people were allowed to directly participate in the competition. Intermediate winnings of the tender for the work were taken by 4 bureaus. They were: Rostovites, Muscovites and British.

Two reached the final,they scored the same number of points. This is Asadov's bureau and the British. In the end, the English company Twelve Architects and their concept won. Their idea is that the airport is not only the heavenly gate of a separate city. This is a bridge to the sky that connects different countries and cities with each other.

Architecturally, it looks like a lot of large multi-level arches that are thrown from the forecourt to the airfield, in some places they flow into bridges that stretch across amazing reservoirs and are located in front of the airport. At the suggestion of the architects, the space between the arches will be glazed for better illumination of the room with daylight and the most convenient observation of landing and take-off through the windows and roof of the terminal.

The opening ceremony of the Platov airport is scheduled for around December 2017. But since construction is ahead of schedule, it is possible that this event will be postponed to an earlier date. The first flights are expected in early 2018. After 100% transfer of flights from the old airport to the new one, the dismantling of the old terminal will begin.
