Kinburn Spit is a quiet and amazing place, which only recently gained popularity among vacationers and became a tourist symbol of the Nikolaev region of Ukraine. For a long time there was a military, then - the border zone. But after the collapse of the USSR, Kinburn turned into a kind of magnet, which attracted with unstoppable force those who wanted a “wild” and at the same time exclusive vacation. Now this is the name of the whole peninsula, stretching from the confluence of the Dnieper and the Bug to the Black Sea. Because this edge of the earth is almost entirely made up of reclaimed sand.

Historic site

Kinburn Spit is mysterious and remarkable. She has an amazing story. Ancient historians wrote about this peninsula. Local legends speak about the Amazons who lived here, and about Scythian gold, and about the sacred temple of Hecate, supposedly hidden in the local tracts. The peninsula was inhabited by Greeks, Turks and Tatars. The latter gave it this name. After all, the current name of the spit comes from the Turkic "Kilburun". Here stood the Turkish fortress, taken by Suvorov in 1787, during the battle for Ochakov. This happened thanks to the cunning of the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks, who dug a canal through the spit under the nose of the Turks and let their "seagulls" go there. Traces of this event are still visible on the surface of the earth, and at the end of the spit, where the fortress used to be, there is a monument to Suvorov.

How to get to "almost an island"?

Kinburn Spit has no roads in the usual sense of the word. There are several villages and farms here, interconnected by quicksand. Every year the places where you can drive change, and only very sophisticated drivers of cars with four-wheel drive can drive here overland. After the border detachment was removed from here, an all-terrain vehicle "Ural" goes between the "mainland" and the villages, which drags a bus behind it. His path runs through the desert and the village of Golaya Pristan to Nikolaev. He goes once a day. But it is much easier than shaking through the sands for many hours in the heat of the desert, in forty minutes to take a boat to the end of the spit or to the village of Rymba. This is what many tourists do. Trips to the Kinburn Spit are organized, as a rule, from Ochakov. There are guarded parking lots on the piers where you can easily park your car for several days. Basically, these are weekend excursions, but more and more people come to live for a week or two on the very “almostisland, as they say. And it makes sense.

Where to live?

Kinburn offers visitors many places to stay. There are boarding houses, and the private sector, and tent camps. It is difficult to say whether lovers of comfort will like the Kinburn Spit. There is a recreation center here, and not just one - this is Steep Scree, Elite, and Wonderland. All of them have good living conditions, good cuisine, wireless internet. Mostly these bases and tourist complexes are located either in the village of Pokrovka or on the Rymby farm. You can stay cheaper in the private sector - and here you already choose what you like - amenities and a higher price, or hot water in a natural “boiler” in the sun and a room in a village house. But the Kinburn Spit has one feature - almost nowhere you will see the so-called settlements "on the first line". From any base or private house to the sea, you need to go through the beautiful flowering steppe and pine grove from 600 to 1000 meters. Almost no one settles on the shore. Or rather, on the beach. All villages and farms stand on the banks of the Dnieper-Bug estuary with fresh water. Only one of the departmental bases is located near the sea pier, and a stationary tent camp is also organized annually. But those who do not want to go through the steppe can be consoled - several times a day, enterprising locals organize something like a "minibus" to the beach.

Nature

Kinburn Spit is currently part ofLandscape National Park "Beloberezhye Svyatoslav" The fact is that these places during the time of the Old Russian prince were close to the trading transshipment point of the famous route "from the Varangians to the Greeks." The arrow of the spit is located a few kilometers from the famous island of Berezan. This place has an amazing microclimate. Sometimes it rains in Ochakovo, and the entire Nikolaev region is flooded, but here not a drop will fall. The thing is that on the one hand the waters of the Dnieper-Bug estuary wash the spit, and on the other - the sea. Primordial relic forests have been preserved in its widest part, pine groves have been planted in the sand between the villages, and closer to the narrow end there is a wonderful steppe with healing mud lakes, where thousands of snow-white birds rise into the air. Northern eiders settled at the end of the spit, and sometimes flocks of pelicans can be seen in the sky. Swans nest on the inland lakes, and dolphins a few meters from the shore are not a rare sight.

Attractions

They are mostly natural here. Why is the Kinburn Spit famous? Resting in these places, of course, offers a journey into the "lost world" of a fairy tale. First of all, this is the famous Volyzhin forest - the remains of the primeval thicket of Giley, about which Herodotus wrote. These are oaks, birches, alder trees, overgrown with lianas. By the way, one of these trees is shown during excursions, assuring that it is an oak, sung by Pushkin. The one on which the "scientist cat" walked. So it is quite possible that the Kinburn Peninsula is Lukomorye. Why not? Sandyravines overgrown with creeping vegetation and sometimes swampy are called sagas by the locals. They don’t go there themselves, and they don’t advise tourists. On the spit there are steppe wolves, wild boars, chamois and sand jerboas, similar to small kangaroos. You can get acquainted with all this living creatures by visiting the forestry zoo. And another attraction is the so-called mullet lakes - the places where this fish spawns. They are insipid and uniquely pure.

Beach

The coast here is somewhat reminiscent of the islands in Thailand. Boundless sky and sea, white finest sand crunching underfoot, a shallow entrance to the sea… And the beaches are huge, endless. The most equipped of them is located at the end of the spit - there is everything your heart desires - restaurants and cafes, water bananas and skis, sun loungers … This is where one of the Ochakov boats arrives. Another beach, near which there is a bar right on the shore, is located not far from Rymbov. There you will have to sunbathe on your own towel in the shade of olive trees. A little further away, near the pier, there is the beach of the departmental base, but it can be crowded there, and there is absolutely no shade. But, by the way, to find an absolutely deserted place, one where in broad daylight you can swim naked, and no one, except for numerous gulls and loons, will pay attention to this, on Kinburn is not a problem at all. Sometimes, right in the sea, a few meters from the shore, you can find valuable deposits of very useful white clay. And what sunsets here! Simply unearthly beauty.

Kinburn Spit: fishing

Mostly they catch here not on the sea - where there are reserved places - but onfirth. In this brackish and warm water, large crucian and carp bite well, as well as gobies and mullet. Sea fishing is allowed away from the shore. Seasoned tourists praise spearfishing very much, where you can catch large fish and stingrays. True, towards the end of the spit, the water is a little muddy.

Kinburn Spit: reviews

Those who have been here at least once are irresistibly drawn here again. This is a place that is loved by romantic natures, newlyweds, families with children, and those who simply want to escape from civilization. People like that you can go here from May to October. Although the swimming season lasts three to four months, fishing, amazing milk from the local cows and meadows with porcini mushrooms are another highlight of the spit. Of course, local furious mosquitoes bother, and sometimes there are jellyfish and algae in the sea. But even this is a sign of excellent ecology and clean air. So come, don't hesitate. This is one of the best holiday destinations in Ukraine.
