Severny Airport was founded in 1929 and is located in the Zayeltsinsky district of Novosibirsk. During the eighty-two years of its existence, he "saw" a lot. During the terrible years of the Great Patriotic War, it was a rear airport, actively developing in the post-war years. In 1959, the terminal building was built. It was this time that can rightly be considered the heyday of the airport. In 1959, a second airport called Tolmachevo was built in Novosibirsk.
On the sidelines
Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) has changed its status and faded into the background. Although in those days he was very loved by the townspeople. Soon it began to be operated for the needs of small aviation with the status of "city airport". Novosibirsk gradually got used to the secondary role of Severny, which served regional and local airlines. He also received sports aviation aircraft. In many ways, Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) deserved such a decrease in status because of its location. After all, it is located within the city, and, under the condition of a northwest wind, the planes are forced to land, flying over the center of Novosibirsk, which,of course, it was not long before the impact on flight safety.
Arsenal airfield
Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) had three runways in its arsenal. The surface of one was made of asph alt concrete, the other two lanes were unpaved.
Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) could receive the following aircraft: An-2, 12, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 38, 72, 74, Yak-40 and L-410, all types of helicopters. Flights were carried out mainly on An-24 aircraft to Abakan, Nizhnevartovsk, Novokuznetsk, Novy Urengoy, Salekhard, Khanty-Mansiysk and other cities.
Change of ownership
The territory of the airport is also famous for its aircraft repair plant, which has eight Mi-8 helicopters. Since 2005, the open joint-stock company Novosibirsk-Avia has become the owner of the airport. Sports flights on the planes of the Novosibirsk aviation clubs have become the main specialization of the Severny airport. A significant event was the holding in 2008 of the world championship in aerobatics. All flights were carried out on Yak-52 aircraft. It was a celebration of sports aviation, aerial acrobatics and parachuting, which forever inscribed the air platform in history.
Retired
The airport is currently closed. In many ways, this was facilitated by a sharp deterioration in the situation in the nineties. A decrease in the number of air travel, unprofitable transactions for the sale of property, inappropriate and inefficient use of budgetary funds led to the bankruptcy of the enterprise and the sale of property. Gradually, Tolmachevo Airport gained priority due to its more advantageous location and modern technological equipment. From February 1, 2011, Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) has been closed and does not function.
The architectural development plan of the city provides for the construction of a residential microdistrict with the same name on the site of the Severny airport. And it was decided to leave the terminal building as a historical monument.
