Kurumoch International Airport is located in the village of Bereza, between two large cities: Samara and Togliatti. In 2015, more than 2.2 million passengers were served here. According to the results of the year, it is among the ten largest airports in Russia.
History of emergence and development
The official opening date of the airport is December 19, 1957. On this day, an order was signed to create a fourth-class airport Kurumoch.
The airport was built before 1960. This year, training flights were allowed on An-10 and Il-18 aircraft. Since February of the following year, the Kuibyshev-Moscow flight began to depart. It was an An-10 carrying cargo.
On the same plane, but a few months later, the first flights for people began. In mid-May, a passenger flight was sent to Mineralnye Vody. Immediately after that, flights to Leningrad, Sverdlovsk, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Adler began.
Already by the beginning of the seventies, 700 thousand people used the services of the airport. Cargo transportation amounted to 27 thousand tons.
In the late eighties, the airport underwent reconstruction. were builtnew facilities that improve the infrastructure. By this time, the construction of the second runway was completed, which allowed to receive larger aircraft.
Kurumoch International Airport received its status in 1992. A year later, the international terminal began its work.
In 1994-1995, the airport was renamed several times. The airport returned its traditional name - Kurumoch - in 2002.
In 2007, a large sum was allocated from the national budget for the reconstruction, which was planned to be completed by 2014.
By 2011, 96% of the airport's shares passed into the hands of the Samara Region Development Corporation. And already in January of the following year, the reconstruction and construction of a new complex of buildings began. The use of the new terminal began in January 2015.

The airport is located 35 kilometers from Samara and 45 kilometers from Togliatti.
Kurumoch Airport can serve various types of aircraft, including An-124, Tu-204, Airbus-A330, Il-96 and other lighter versions.

How to get to and from the airport
There are several ways to get to the airportways. The easiest is to take a taxi.
The second option is route transport. It departs from the site located next to the terminal. Tickets are sold at the box office, in the arrivals hall. Bus number 652 runs regularly on two routes: Kurumoch (airport)–Samara, Kurumoch–Tolyatti.
Buses 392 and 79 go to the villages near the airport. You can also use them for travel.
Incidents
During the existence of the airport, there have been four serious disasters.
In the disaster that occurred on March 8, 1965, 30 people died. Of these, 9 crew members and 21 passengers. The plane was controlled by a trainee, there was an inspector nearby. When climbing due to a malfunction of artificial horizons in snowfall conditions, the pilots lost their bearings. The plane crashed to the ground.
The second disaster happened on July 9, 1973. As a result of the destruction of the engine, the fuselage was damaged. Shrapnel killed two passengers. Two more were injured.
A serious pilot-caused accident occurred on October 20, 1986. During landing, the landing gear broke. The plane lay on its belly and in this position moved about three hundred meters. The fuselage broke in half. A fire broke out due to a fuel leak. In total, there were 93 people on board. Of these, 69 died.
The last crash, also related to crew errors, occurred on March 17, 2007. Before reaching the runway, the plane landed on the ground, continuing to move by inertia. Then it rolled over and broke into pieces.6 people died, 27 were injured.
