Tula region is located in the center of the East European Plain. It was formed in 1937. The Battle of Kulikovo, which marked the beginning of the formation of the sights of the modern Tula region, is certainly of the greatest importance for the region. Kulikovo field, the Tula Kremlin are preserved historical monuments that allow tourists to feel the atmosphere of that time. It is unlikely that you will be able to get acquainted with all the monuments of architecture and art in a short excursion. But every tourist is obliged to try the famous gingerbread and tea from the samovar. The sights of Tula and the Tula region can be listed for a very long time. But the leading places in terms of tourist attendance are occupied by Kulikovo field, the Tula Kremlin and the only exotarium in Russia. One of the tasks set by the Tula region is to restore sights and give them their original appearance. Kulikovo field is a landmark museum-reserve,which every Russian should visit. For more than 10 years, work has been underway to restore and reconstruct it. Specialists are trying to restore the landscape of the historical battlefield as accurately as possible, to return forests and fields.
Sights of the Tula region take their roots from the distant past. In 1503, Prince Ivan Vasilievich took Tula into his possession, and the city became the property of the Muscovite state. In order to make the road to Moscow safe, the ruler ordered the construction of an oak fortress in Tula. Seven years later, construction began on a stone city inside this fortress, modeled on the Kremlin of the capital.
The Tula Kremlin became a hiding place for False Dmitry, the boyars came here to swear allegiance to the impostor. It was called "a city within a city". Almost the entire population lived in it. The historical Tula region has been creating sights of its Kremlin for a long time. Bolshaya Kremlyovskaya Street, the first of all in Tula, was also located here.
The Tula Kremlin consists of nine towers. Initially, they looked like a chess rook. The Spasskaya Tower warned residents of the impending alarm. At that time, a bell was placed on it, and stocks of gunpowder were stored under it. Odoevskaya tower opened the gate to the road to Odoev. Nikitskaya had a dungeon in which torture was carried out. Ivanovskaya tower led to the city garden. It also had an underground passage leading to the river. Naugolnaya is located closer tomeat row. The tower of the Pyatnitsky Gates kept weapons and provisions in case of a siege. The Water Gate skipped the procession for the Waters. There are two cathedrals on the territory of the Tula Kremlin. One of them has now become a weapons museum.
The Tula region has sights and exotic nature that amaze guests. Here is the largest collection of unique animals and snakes, frogs and toads, lizards and turtles. In the exotarium, specimens unknown to science can be observed. This attraction will not leave any visitor indifferent.
