Perm Zoo serves as an educational and cultural institution. It begins its history in 1922, when the "Corner of Wildlife" was created on the basis of the local history museum. The first inhabitants were a brown bear, which was called by the simple name Mashka, five fox cubs left without a mother, as well as two elk calves who lost their mother moose, she died at the hands of poachers. Then two roe deer, three eagle owls, a family of rare upland owls and a couple more birds appeared. And the animals kept coming and coming, and over time there were a lot of them.
Where is the menagerie?
From August 1, 1933, the zoo becomes an independent organization. It is impossible to believe that now the Perm Zoo is located on an area of 1.95 hectares in the center of the Ural city of Perm. Located on Monastyrskaya street, 10.
What interesting things can you see in the zoo?
The zoo hospitably opens its doors to parents and children of different social classes. Throughout the year, the number of visitors who want to see many representatives of the fauna does not decrease. Nearly 300,000 people visit the Perm Zooannually. The workers and administration of the menagerie make communication with animals unforgettable. Toddlers can pet and feed the rabbits, lambs and goats, or have fun on the playground with slides and swings.
The Perm Zoo has more than four hundred species of animals, about two hundred of them are listed in the Red Book. But some animals cannot be found in the territory occupied by this zoo, since large ungulates need even more space than is currently available.
The polar bear, snow leopard, Amur tiger and markhorn goat are considered rare and endangered animals. But the Perm Zoo can boast of their breeding.
Care for residents and visitors
All workers treat their pets very carefully and with great attention, build new enclosures, as the species pairs of animals created annually breed, animal families grow. Their living conditions are constantly improving. They also take care of people who come to communicate with our smaller brothers. This care is manifested in the improvement of the appearance of the sites and enclosures, in the equipment of recreation areas for visitors.
Reconstructions that took place in the menagerie
The zoo has gone through several renovations. Since 1980, the elephant housing has been rebuilt. Also, the hoof row has undergone changes. Added room for cranes and ostriches. Lions and all fur-bearing animals began to live in a separate pavilion. The pavilion of allexotic representatives of birds. The monkey house was completely restored after the fire. The territory has increased significantly thanks to all the redevelopment and completion.
Inhabitants of the Perm menagerie
The zoo has a fairly complete representation of the diverse world of not only the Ural fauna. Who is not here: insectivorous and hare-like, only primates, there are eight species, and there are quite rare individuals, such as tamarins. Lots of rodents and predators. There are so many of the latter, they are all so different that many visitors do not have time to approach other enclosures: beautiful and proud lions, tigers, bears, wolves and leopards attract the attention of those who come to the zoo for a long time. Not all animals living in the Perm Zoo have a meek disposition. After all, they say, no matter how much you feed a wolf, he still looks into the forest. No matter how ideal the conditions for keeping animals, each of them wants to be free. All zoo employees understand this very well.
Enlightenment Mission of the Menagerie
The educational mission, which zoos are primarily called upon to fulfill, is pursued by the Perm Zoo. Not many people living in Russia can afford to travel to Africa or India. And in Perm they watch with interest and even feed, for example, a real live elephant. It is also a huge contribution to the upbringing of the younger generation. The child, communicating with animals, becomes kinder. In this waythe right behavior and attitude towards those who need human protection is laid.
The zoo plays the role of a link between man and the animal world around him. Many menageries not only watch over and care for their dumb inhabitants, they protect them from those who are greedy, who kill animals, despite the fact that they are an endangered species. Many cubs that have fallen into the hands of attentive workers by pure chance acquire a new family. Being in their own environment, without parental care, some would have died.
