A bit of history
At its core, Sparrow Hills are not mountains in the direct sense of the word. This is a high steep bank with ravines, in which there are a lot of springs. This place was chosen by people in ancient times. Here is the famous Mamon settlement, the settlement dates back to the 8th-7th centuries. before. n. e. and 6-7 centuries. n. e. But the name of this place came from the village of Vorobyov, located on the right bank of the Moscow River. The village belonged to a certain priest Vorobyov, he sold it to Princess Sofia Vitovtovna. Apparently, she really liked the local beauties. Sparrow Hills in Moscow have always been loved by Russian tsars, princes and other nobility. After all, here one could not only admire the beautiful views, take a break from the bustle of the city, but also have a nice hunt: roe deer, wild boars and hares were always found in abundance in the forests. These animals were often seen in the forest zone of Sparrow Hills until the eighties of the last century.
Sparrow Hills Nature Reserve
Sparrow Hills in Moscow today are a natural reserve. This is something between a city park and a forest park. Large areas of forest with natural vegetation, rare species of trees and shrubs have been preserved here. Near each such tree there is a sign with a description and the approximate age of the plant. Despite the fact that the Sparrow Hills in Moscow are located almost in the very centercity (from here to the Kremlin is only five and a half kilometers), large-scale construction has never been carried out here. And this happened due to the large difference in the heights of the relief, which reaches seventy meters at a distance of three hundred meters from the riverbed. Compared to the gently sloping left bank of the Moskva River, the right one really looks like a mountainous area.
