Upon learning that her lover was lying dead and motionless at the bottom, the maiden rushed into the depths of the sea.

Who first called this dead water is unknown, but the name was passed down from generation to generation and eventually came to our time, making the lagoon popular. Only the people who inhabited the bay, and now all of Turkey, knew about this story. Oludeniz offers a rest on the Dead Water, but this is just a legend.
