At the end of 2011, ceremonial events were held in the city of Surgut, Tyumen region. An important event took place in sports life - a new, large, comfortable Ice Palace was commissioned and put into operation. Surgut waited a long time for this facility to be put into operation. Previously, sports battles were held on the hockey rink of the Olimpiysky Palace. The ice arena of this club did not fit the official standard. There was no indoor skating rink in the city for mass skating of residents. The Sports Palace solved most of the problems.

Opening of the Ice Palace

Natalya Komarova, Governor of Yugra, cut the red ribbon and inaugurated the new Sports Palace. Commemorative inscription "Good luck always!" the head of the district left on the puck, decorated with a colorful logo. Surgut Mayor Dmitry Popov got the right to score the honorable first goal with this puck at the new ice arena.

The opening ceremony was held with the participation of city children's hockey teams, artists from the city of Yekaterinburg, who came with the Nutcracker ballet, and Olympic winners, figure skating champions Roman Kostomarov and Tatyana Navka.

Construction stages

The construction of an important facility for the city was entrusted to SFC Surgutgazstroy, the company that won the tender and became the general contractor. The building project was approved and put into operation in 2006. It took some time to prepare. At the end of 2008, the first pile was driven. Construction took three years.

The commissioning of the palace was scheduled for early 2011, but the commissioning of the facility could not take place at the appointed time. The financing of the project was not always at the proper level, but the main reason for the delay was a big fire at the very beginning of the year, which postponed the commissioning of the palace for a few more months. Then almost two thousand square meters of area were damaged, the facade of the building, half finished, was badly burned.

Surgut spent about two billion rubles on the construction of the Ice Palace facility, most of which (which is 1.6 billion rubles) was allocated by the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.

The new facility is the first stage of the multifunctional modern sports complex "Ugra".

The Sports Palace is located almost in the center of the city, at the intersection of Dzerzhinsky and Engels streets with the Yugorsky tract. Nearby is the city administration and Surgut University.

Modern Arena

The grand structure is located on an area of about twenty-two thousand square meters, it includes a large ice arena, functioning all year round. The stands around it can accommodate two thousand spectators. Its equipment allows holding competitions of different levels in winter sports - from urban to All-Russian. All week the ice arena is busy, very tight schedule of classes, a break of 15 minutes is done to change groups or pour ice.
