In 1958, construction of a new reservoir began near the city of Kharkov. Construction work continued for 5 years. And in 1964, the Pecheneg reservoir was already functioning. The locals call it the S altov Sea. The purpose of creation is the water supply of the city of Kharkov. During the construction process, some areas were flooded, in particular, villages. Namely: Luzhki, Sands, Sapovka, Pisarevka, Oktyabrskoye, Novodonovka, Komsomolskoye. Part of the settlements flooded the new reservoir only partially. These are Stary S altov, Verkhny S altov, Moldovoe, Kholtomlya, March, Metallovka, Rubezhnoe.

Short description

According to the method of formation, the Pechenegsky reservoir can be called a river valley. It belongs to the Seversky Donets river basin. The constructed dam has a length of 2.7 km. The area of the reservoir is 86.2 sq. km, length - 653 km. It refers to the riverartificial type, medium size. Water and runoff are regulated all year round. That is why the volume of its water is unchanged and is 383 cubic meters. km. Pechenegskoe reservoir, the depth of which mainly varies within 5 m, has places where the bottom moves away from the surface by almost 20 m.

Location of the reservoir and its task

The dam of the Pechenezhsky reservoir is located near the village of Pechenegi in the Chuguevsky district of the Kharkiv region. The closest big city to this reservoir is Kharkov (regional center). It was for its water supply that the reservoir was built.

Earlier, there was already an artificial pond at this place. It was called the Kochetok reservoir. Kharkov needed a lot of fresh water. The new reservoir had to cope with this task in full. It is planned to build a hydroelectric power station on the small dam. On the banks of the reservoir there is a wonderful recreation center. The Pechenezh reservoir is quite large, so everyone can find something to their liking, have a wonderful rest and have a good time. Tourists are not only local residents, but also visitors from nearby areas.

Underwater wildlife

This reservoir was founded on the river Seversky Donets. Along the perimeter of its coastline are stunning and picturesque landscapes. There are a lot of fish in the reservoir itself, which local fishermen love to catch. The bottom of the reservoir is not easy, it is with pits, dumps, brows. The water temperature in summer is from 22 to 28 degrees Celsius. In winter, the reservoir freezes heavily, the thickness of the ice is 40 cm.

Fishing is the most common recreation on the Pechenezh reservoir. More than 30 species of various fish live in its waters. These are roach, ide, pike, tench, pike perch, perch, bream. Now you understand why fishermen love this reservoir so much? These are not all of the listed species, there are a lot of them and they are really tasty. Fishermen in these parts can be found both in winter and in summer.

Plant world

Pechenegskoye Reservoir is simply created for recreation. There are camps, recreation centers, equipped beaches, sports complexes. A variety of water recreation is offered: yachting, romantic boat trips, catamarans and other water transport. The right bank of the reservoir is very high and steep; a chic oak forest grows on it. The left one is low and gentle, there is mostly coniferous forest.

Dense vegetation prevails on the banks of the reservoir, here you can enjoy picking mushrooms and berries, and just come to relax with family and friends, fry kebabs and swim, play games in nature. It is also a chic place for archaeological excavations, which are held here annually.

Reserved area

Pechenegskoe reservoir, thanks to its unique wildlife, has become famous throughout the world. There is a whole park here. It is called "Pechenegsky field", the territory is under protection, as it is inhabited by a largea wide variety of amazing animals. Some of these species are listed in the Red Book of Europe. The remaining representatives (there are 18 in total) are in the Red Book of Ukraine and 14 species are under the protection of the Kharkiv region. Pechenezhskoye Pole is located on the banks of the reservoir among an abundance of recreation and sports facilities, as well as children's camps.

Pechenegskoe reservoir: recreation centers, prices

Family recreation club "Khutorok" is located near the village. Khotomlya, Volchansky district. The rooms designed for living are very comfortable.
