Turkey is a mountain located in the Tuapse region from the northeast side. If we consider the regions of the Russian Federation, then it is located in the Krasnodar Territory. Its height is about 860 m above sea level. The territory on which this mountain is located is called the Black Sea Reserve. It is located at a distance of 40 km from such a settlement as the city of Tuapse. The mountain was formed as a result of a volcanic eruption. It is mostly rocky, so it has a wide popularity among mountaineers. They come to Mount Turkey most often from April to June and from September to the end of October.

Turkey is a mountain located on the territory of the state nature reserve. It occupies some zones of the Tuapse and Goryachevsky districts. The total area of this reserve is 58.8 thousand hectares.

According to the decision of the head of the local administration in 1999, the boundaries of the reserve were drawn. Divided into 3 parts: North, East and West.

• Northern regionhas the following boundaries: from the confluence of the Bolshaya Sobachka and Psekups rivers in the direction to the west to Mount Krutaya. It has a height of about 597 meters above sea level.
• The eastern part is limited as follows: from the confluence of the Bolshaya Sobachka and Psekups rivers in a southwestern and southern direction to Mount Jirama. Its height is 1072 meters above sea level.
• The western part has the following borders: from the above-mentioned Mount Jirama in the northwestern direction to the Psegef River (its height is 1243 meters above the sea).

Turkey is a mountain that has rich flora and fauna. The world of plants mainly consists of chestnut, beech, hornbeam, oak, coniferous trees, juniper. And among the animals in this zone you can see wild boars and raccoons. The Caucasian viper is also found in these places.

The climate of Mount Turkey is influenced by the Black Sea. With the onset of winter, it is covered with snow, although thaws have often occurred recently. In summer, the mountain is very hot, and rainfall is rare.

Mountain Name

Turkey is a mountain, which, as many have long noticed, has a funny name for a well-known domestic bird. It is quite possible that this is why the name arose. The fact is that visually the configuration of the mountain in the past resembled the head of a turkey, but after many years, under the influence of natural processes, the shape changed, but the name remained. This is one of the versions. There is also one that is associated with the Adyghe phrase "mountain of the Hindus." And according to another versionthe name translates as "Mountain of Sinds".

As it was written above, Mount Turkey is often climbed. It is quite easy even for beginners. And it's not about rock climbing with all the necessary equipment. The fact is that a convenient path leads to the top, which is laid through the Black Sea reserve.

During the Great Patriotic War, long battles took place in this area. And therefore, at present, those who are interested in visiting such places and looking for military trophies come here. Many have already managed to find a lot of interesting things.

Local territories have long been carefully cleared of possible mines and other shells, and monuments to those who fell heroically in battle have also been erected. Grateful descendants even today bring fresh flowers to these monuments and obelisks.

How to get there?

Based on all of the above, it becomes clear that Mount Turkey (Krasnodar Territory) in the Tuapse region is very popular. What routes lead here?

You can get there in various ways, for example, by train. To get to the mountain by this type of railway transport, you need to get up at the Turkey station. Then walk to the nearest village, cross the paved bridge, turn left and head into the forest. From there you can see a marked path that leads up to the mountain, however, along a steep ascent. However, at the end of the path, it becomes more gentle.

The way by personal transport

It is possible to get to these places by private car or hire a taxi. You can start the journey not only from such a settlement as the city of Tuapse, but also from Krasnodar. At the station "Indyuk" the vehicle will have to be left in the parking lot near the village itself. Next, you need to follow the same path as when traveling by train.

And you can get to Mount Turkey from the other end. You need to get to the village of Gorny, turn left along the dirt road and, after driving quite a bit, you can see wonderful mountain landscapes. On an off-road vehicle, it is really possible to get close to the rocks. However, the path leads up and is difficult to climb, so few people prefer to use this path.

In general, the route to Mount Turkey is very interesting and beautiful, thanks to the surrounding nature. Many tourists stay overnight, setting up tents.
