History of the metro station "Pervomaiskaya"

The Pervomayskaya metro station is the penultimate one on the eastern direction of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line. It is located on the stretch between the stations "Schelkovskaya" and "Izmailovskaya". The first passengers stepped on this platform in October 1961. And until the summer of 1963, the Pervomaiskaya metro station was the final one, until the eastern direction of the line was continued to Shchelkovskaya. More than half a century has passed since then, and there is no reason to believe that the situation can change. There are no plans for further continuation of the line and its development outside the Moscow Ring Road.

Even with a developed imagination, it is impossible to imagine this station as any significant work of architecture. Her appearance is laconic and unimpressive. According to its constructive type, the Pervomaiskaya metro station is a three-span columned station of shallow foundation. The vault of the main hall is supported by two rows of reinforced concrete columns. The narrow columns widen slightly at the top. They are finished with red marble. The decorative design ends here. columns in eacha row of forty pieces. Metro "Pervomaiskaya" was the first station of this design. In the future, such a layout scheme was adopted as a typical one and was repeatedly used both in Moscow and in other cities of the Soviet Union, where the subway was designed and built. In architectural circles, such a layout was jokingly called the "centipede." The appearance of the station was directly reflected in the era in which it was built and put into operation.

It was a famous period in the history of Soviet culture, known as "the struggle against architectural excesses". And "Pervomaiskaya" was still lucky. Stations "Izmailovskaya" or "Zhdanovskaya" look much more nondescript. There the victory over architecture was complete and final. A trip from the center of Moscow to the east along the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line makes a particularly strong impression. On the same radius are such architectural and historical masterpieces as Kyiv, Smolenskaya, Arbatskaya, Revolution Square. And the journey will end on Izmailovskaya, Pervomaiskaya and Shchelkovskaya. In half an hour, the whole history of the Moscow Metro passes before your eyes, in its most expressive achievements and most mediocre failures.

But despite the modest appearance, the station successfully performs its functions of receiving andsending passengers for more than half a century. Many people go from here every morning to work, and in the evening they are again met by the "Pervomaiskaya" metro station. Moscow ends here. This is the outskirts, very close to the Ring Road. This is a vast residential area, but in addition there are a number of historical sights and a large green area - Izmailovsky Park - a favorite vacation spot for many Muscovites and guests of the capital. From the Pervomaiskaya metro station, the exit leads to Izmailovsky Boulevard, to Pervomaiskaya and 9th Parkovaya streets.
