Each year, more than 3 million tourists from all over the world visit Israel. Most of them choose air transport. Each airport in Israel is prepared to receive foreign guests. In total, there are 17 civilian airports in the country, of which only 4 are of international importance.
Israel International Airports
The list of the most significant and largest "heavenly gateways" of the country is as follows:
- The airport known as Ben Gurion.
- Uvda - located 60 kilometers from the resort town of Eilat.
- Haifa - located in the northeast of the city of the same name.
- Eilat - lies directly in the city of Eilat.
From this list stands out, of course, the Tel Aviv airport, which bears the name of the first Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. This "heavenly harbor" is the largest and main in the whole country. The annual passenger turnover of this airport exceeds in aggregate all others, includinglocal.
History
Israel's main airport was opened in 1936. Initially, it bore the name of Lydda Airport, later it was renamed Lod. But in 1973, after the death of the first Israeli prime minister, the airport received its current name.
Description
Israel's largest airport is located 15 kilometers from Tel Aviv. The complex consists of four terminals:
- The first terminal was built in 1936. Today, this building mainly serves VIPs who arrived at the airport on private jets.
- The second terminal was built at the end of the 20th century. But he worked only until 2007. The building was demolished and a new baggage terminal is being built in its place.
- The third terminal was built relatively recently, in 2004. It receives the main flow of tourists from all over the world.
- Terminal 4 (backup) has not been officially opened yet.
Safety
Israel's main airport - Ben Gurion - is considered the safest in the world. Despite this status, tourists may not even notice it. After all, airport employees are absolutely no different from the crowd of tourists. Any person passing nearby may be an employee of this airport. Plus, the building is equipped with all sorts of technical tools: telescopic ladders and x-ray machines.
Flights
The most popular airport in Israel cooperates with a huge number ofairlines. Of the Russian ones, Aeroflot-Don, C7 Airlines, Transaero and Ural Airlines can be noted.
Runways
The airport has 3 lanes, each with its own name.
- "Home" - has a length of more than 3 kilometers. After renovations in 2008, the runway can accommodate A380 class airbuses.
- "Short" - almost two times shorter than the "Main" strip. Mainly used by civilian airliners.
- "Quiet" is the largest runway, which is 3,650 m long. It was named so for one simple reason: planes approaching this runway fly over fields, not over residential buildings.
Thus, high capacity and security have made Ben Gurion Airport one of the most popular in the world.
