This wonderful place is located on the left bank of the Dnieper, opposite the historical and architectural center of the capital of Ukraine. It is washed not only by the Dnieper, but also by its tributary - the Desenka. The total area is 450 hectares. Trukhaniv Island is connected to the opposite bank by a bridge.
From the history of the island
This land got its name thanks to Tugorkhan, the Polovtsian khan, who, according to epics and chronicles, is better known as Tugarin the Serpent. In those distant times, Trukhanov Island was the residence of his daughter, who was married to the Kyiv prince Svyatopolk II. Even earlier, there was a settlement of Olzhischi on the island, which belonged to the famous Princess Olga. In the 16th century, the island passed into the possession of the Pustynno-Nikolsky Monastery, but at the end of the 17th century it was returned to the city.
It was repopulated in the 19th century. It was at this time that the first buildings and workers' settlements appeared here. Officially, they were allowed to live here only in 1907, when more than a hundred people already lived here. At that time, Trukhanov Island had a yacht club, the Hermitage Park, and a shipyard on its territory. A little later herebuilt a small church of St. Elizabeth. During the war, all the buildings on the island were destroyed. Gradually, it turned into a resting place for the townspeople.
Trukhanov island today
Today there are the largest beaches of the Ukrainian capital, restaurants, water stations and recreation centers. In the north is the Park of Friendship of Peoples and the reserve Bobrovnya.
The beauty of the island
For a very long time, this island has been attracting the people of Kiev and tourists from other cities to its expanses. Believe me, there is something to see here: the nature of this paradise has been preserved almost in its original form.
Matveevsky Bay
Here are sports bases where rowers train. The bay was named after the rector of Kyiv University Matveev, who once was its owner.
Drainage channel
It was created artificially, especially for rowers. This is a very picturesque place: in July, real lilies bloom on the water surface.
Trukhanov Island in Kyiv: how to get there
The nearest metro station "Postova Square". From this stop, along the embankment, you need to get to the pedestrian bridge and cross it to the island. If you go by car, then it is better to enter the island from the Moscow bridge.
Island vacation
Kyivians and guests of the Ukrainian capital enjoy spending time here. There is an official beach near the Pedestrian Bridge and small "semi-wild" beaches of Matveevsky Bay.
Trukhanov Island in Kyiv is an oasis of wildlife, so thousands of Kyivans come here on weekends. Unfortunately, Trukhaniv's beaches are not the safest place: judging by the results of research, the water is not very suitable for swimming.
There are several cafes and bars here. The island has a school for young rowers and a riding section.
Most vacationers come for beach activities to Trukhanov Island. The recreation center of the same name is a complex that provides a wide variety of services to its guests. There are two outdoor swimming pools, the water in which is filtered and disinfected. This base is rented on a permanent basis for their employees by such companies as the Fora supermarket chain, Inter and Novy Kanal TV channels, large companies Heavenly Krynitsa, Magnatek and others.
In the Trukhanov complex you can have a great rest in the fresh air and do your favorite sport. It is possible that someone just wants to lie in the sun by the pool or on the beach.
Here you can organize a banquet, celebrate an anniversary or relax with colleagues in an informal setting.
Pools of the Trukhanov complex
Many people prefer to relax near artificial reservoirs. For lovers of organized leisure in the complex there are:
- large pool (length 25 meters, depth about 2 m);
- pool for children (depth 1 m);
- pool with water slide (depth 1.5 meters).
I would especially like to mention the beach incomplex "Trukhanov". The island has several beaches, but perhaps only this one is maintained in perfect condition: always clean sand and running water. The workers of the recreation center carefully monitor the condition of the bottom in the reservoir, preventing the appearance of underwater pits and debris.
If you want to go outdoors on a hot summer day, come to Trukhanov Island. We are sure that you will not regret your trip.
