History of Appearance

On the territory where the Aviator Park is located today, there used to be the main airfield of Leningrad. At the beginning of the twentieth century, this base was used to test new aviation equipment and various airplanes. Aircraft mechanics and pilots were also trained and prepared for work here.

This place was once of great importance for Russian aviation, and many Soviet records were set here. But in the forties, after the surrounding area began to be built up with new buildings, this airfield was closed. And later, its territory turned into a place for recreation for local residents.

Then, in the sixties, it was decidedto build here a park of Aviators, which has a very interesting layout. The runway of the former airfield has turned into Novo-Izmailovsky Prospekt.

In 1968, in this cultural place, it was decided to erect a monument to military pilots, which has a height of twelve meters.

Description of the park

This territory consists of many winding and bizarre paths and alleys, and its area is more than thirty hectares. In the very heart of this cultural place, its main attraction is located - a pond, on the banks of which the famous monument is located. Thus, this monument can be seen from any corner of the park.

The whole area is planted with deciduous trees, but there is also a small alley where only spruces grow.

The Aviators' Park is always crowded with vacationers, as here you can practice any kind of sports, take walks for the purpose of recovery, or just spend your leisure time in nature and breathe fresh air.

Active and fun time

St. Petersburg has a considerable number of park areas, but this one is the most suitable for cycling. There is a pair of paved paths that have a length of 750 meters. Also in this place it will be convenient to ride skateboards and scooters.

You can just take a picnic basket there, after putting a lot of different and tasty sandwiches in it, and then go to a wonderful pond with your family or friends to enjoy the atmosphere of peace and tranquility reigning there.

The main alley of the park is especially good for walking mothers with strollers, and older children can be taught roller skating and cycling, as this road has perfectly smooth asph alt. In one secluded place of this territory, there is even a cozy children's corner, where a trampoline is periodically installed.

The Aviators' Park Pond is popular with avid fishermen who fish here only for sporting interest, as there are not many fish here.

Interesting facts

The construction of a tennis school was planned in the Aviators' Park in 2005, but for this it was necessary to cut down a large number of trees growing on its territory.

The locals didn't particularly like it, and they staged protests, thanks to which they managed to stop the cutting of trees and managed to save the Aviator Park.

How to get to the park?

This place is located in the Leningrad region, in the city of St. Petersburg, in its Moskovsky district. The closest metro station to it is Park Pobedy, from which the distance to the park zone is about one kilometer. It can be easily overcome with a leisurely and walking step along Basseinaya Street.

If you plan to travel to the park by car, you can drive there along Novoizmailovsky Prospekt, which should be entered from Kuznetsovskaya Street. On the territory of this place there is a parking lot for fifty places, so it will not be difficult to leave the car under supervision.
