Not far from the capital, if you move from it in a northerly direction, there is the Klyazma reservoir - one of the largest artificial reservoirs in the Moscow region. It exists in the current coastal outlines since 1937 and was formed as a result of the construction of the Pirogovsky hydroelectric complex on the Klyazma River. This is part of the general hydraulic system of the Moscow Canal, stretching across the territory of the Mytishchi and Khimki districts. The Klyazma reservoir was intended to ensure a sustainable water supply for Moscow, as well as to maintain an acceptable water level for navigation in the Moscow River. In addition, the reservoir has some hydropower potential, the water supply in it ensures the operation of the Skhodnenskaya hydroelectric power station and several local hydroelectric power plants.

But for many Muscovites and guests of the capital, this reservoir has been and remains a popular place for Sunday country rest. And this is not surprising. The coast of the Klyazmensky reservoir stretches for more than sixteen kilometers, and there is where to stay. At the time of the creation of this reservoir, in the thirties of the last century, its purpose was purelyfunctional. But today the Klyazma reservoir has a highly developed infrastructure for tourism and recreation, located along the entire coast. Some of its objects were formed quite a long time ago and have a rich history. Of the most famous recreation areas, it should be noted such as "Gorki" and "Khlebnikovo", as well as the recreation center "Troitskoye".
In the summer, many coastal cafes, restaurants, hotels and other entertainment establishments for adults and children successfully operate. There is even a small zoo. There are many yacht clubs and base stations for water sports activities. In recent years, a number of negative processes have been developing more and more actively, associated with the development of the coast with cottage settlements. But the flowing water of the artificial reservoir has been providing good fishing on its banks for several decades. Among the many amateur fishermen from both Moscow and neighboring regions of the near Moscow region, one of the most popular places for fishing is the Klyazma reservoir. The map of the reservoir allows fishermen to put on it a lot of "fishing places", about the location of which they prefer not to tell anyone. The best fish here are roach, perch, ruff and bream. Traditional winter ice fishing is no less successful in the water area of the reservoir.

From the Moscow Ring Roadthe reservoir is separated by a distance of only five kilometers along the Dmitrov highway. It is along the Moscow Ring Road that it is easiest to get here from different parts of Moscow. The coastline has many convenient entrances to it along its entire length. You can turn to the reservoir in many places, both from Dmitrovsky and Ostashkovsky highways. But you can also take an electric train from the Savyolovsky station to the Khlebnikovo or Vodniki platforms.
