Texans rightly consider the picturesque lake in the Hamilton Pool Preserve to be one of the most fabulous views on earth, and thousands of tourists make the long journey to enjoy the beautiful scenery of this unique natural phenomenon.

Enchanting landscape

A half-open beautiful reservoir with a 15-meter waterfall was formed thousands of years ago after the collapse of the lime arch of a small river that made its way underground. The amazing lake seems to consist of two parts: it lies under the open sky and is closed by a part of the preserved stone dome. Local residents and visiting tourists are amazed by the natural, natural beauty of the Hamilton Pool. A small lake emerging from under the grotto always has an unusual bright green color, and the never-drying waterfall fills it with powerful streams.

History of the National Park

In the 19th century, a picturesque plot of land was bought by an American, whose brother was elected governor of Texas. And the name of the magical pond was given in honor of the Hamilton family. The lake, however, gained its notoriety under the German immigrants who bought the territory from the brothers and tried to make money on the arrangement of the resort.

Only 30 years ago, the state authorities thought about preserving the national treasure, because due to the huge number of people visiting scenic spots, the ecological system of the park began to suffer. Incredibly popular Lake Hamilton was taken under the protection of the local administration,and now there is a nature reserve on the territory, the entrance to which costs only ten dollars.

Rules for visiting the reserve

Now there are strict rules, violations of which are severely punished by the authorities. It is forbidden to bring glass bottles into the lake, make a fire, put up tents and even ride mountain bikes. The local youth, who chose the reservoir as their favorite vacation spot, loved to jump into the lake directly from the top of the waterfall, but now this is also not allowed. The use of raw water from the Hamilton pool is not allowed: the lake contains an increased number of microorganisms, as the swallows build their nests right under the arch of the underground grotto. A special service takes samples daily for he alth-threatening bacteria.

Due to flooding from the rains, the entrance to the local attraction may be closed. Therefore, it is recommended that all tourists first clarify whether the lake is open for visiting and swimming. The park is equipped with numerous rest rooms, which are open until 18:00, where you can relax after a walk to the lake and watch the unique beauty created by Mother Nature.
