Kashin is one of the oldest cities in Russia. It is located in the Tver region and is the administrative center of the Kashinsky district. Traveling across the Russian land in search of interesting places, be sure to look here. The sights of Kashin can be impressive.
City of the Russian Heart
That's what they call this city. The thing is that the river Kashinka flowing through it has many turns. If you look at the city from a height, you will see that its curves form a figure very similar to the image of a heart. The city is quiet and calm. Life flows slowly and measuredly. Seeing the sights of Kashin, you will have to cross the river many times on footbridges, which are countless in this village. Some of them were built a long time ago, others are relatively new. Some have railings, some don't. All bridges are different, each is of particular interest. They blend perfectly and complement the local architecture.
Cathedralhouse
Kashin is famous for a large number of churches and monasteries, well preserved to this day. Sights (reviews of tourists testify to this) of the city can begin to be explored from the Cathedral House. This is a civil building of the eighteenth century. The house served as a dwelling for priests from city churches. It was built in the Baroque style. The two-story building has an attic. The Cathedral House was once beautiful and majestic, but is currently in need of restoration.
Sretensky Monastery
The sights of Kashin include four monasteries at once. The largest of them is Sretensky. Local legends say that it was erected in 1400 in honor of the successful campaign of the Prince of Tver. During the Time of Troubles, the monastery was burned and plundered. Its restoration was carried out by Mother Dorofei, who was once Princess Korkodinova. With her help, the monastery was given its former appearance. The main temple of the monastery - the Sretenskaya Church - was erected at the end of the seventeenth century. Then the rest of the buildings were completed, including the tower with the bell tower. Today in the monastery courtyard you can see the ruins of monastic cells and the urgent building, the Trinity Church, burials, including the grave of Mother Dorothea.
Local History Museum
G. Kashin, whose sights will certainly interest experienced tourists, has its own Museum of Local Lore. It was founded in autumn 1918. The exposition was originally located in the building of the City Duma. And since 1936, the exhibition has taken its placein the Entrance Jerusalem Church, built in the eighteenth century. The building itself is of great interest to historians and anyone interested in architecture. The museum was founded by the merchant Kunkin, who took an active part in the life of his region and was interested in its history. For many years he collected antique items. His collection was confiscated by the authorities and served as the basis for a modern exhibition. Today in the museum you can see antique furniture, household items of citizens and peasants of the city from different times, as well as a collection of portraiture. There are about five thousand exhibits in total.
Church of Joachim and Anna
The sights of Kashin (the photo cannot fully reflect their splendor, they must be seen with your own eyes) include a unique monument of church architecture of the seventeenth century - a wooden temple, which was erected in honor of Saints Anna and Joachim. Once upon a time there was another church on the site of the temple. It was burned during the Time of Troubles. In 1650, the new church was consecrated in the presence of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. The construction is unique in that nails and other iron fasteners were not used during the construction. The logs were connected with the help of ridges and grooves. This design was considered the most reliable. The temple was quite high. He seemed to be heading towards heaven. In 1830 the church was restored. A porch and a bell tower were added. A major overhaul and replacement of the log house was carried out in 1970. Unfortunately, the unique structure has not survived to our times. In 1998, fire destroyed everything. Butold photographs with her image are in the Kashinsky Museum.
Porridge Museum
When exploring the sights of Kashin, be sure to visit the Kashi Museum. This dish has long been considered ritual. It was prepared for all important events, whether it was a wedding, christening or commemoration. And the everyday table rarely did without the mentioned food. The museum contains the most ancient recipes for cooking a variety of cereals. In addition, the exposition also includes utensils, such as pots and cast irons, in which our ancestors cooked. Presented to your attention are carved spoons for men and women, which were presented on important holidays. The museum is located in the city center, in a beautiful building of the 19th century, which is considered an architectural monument. Reviews of tourists about visiting this attraction are simply enthusiastic. But the most vivid impressions, according to travelers and local residents, can be obtained by visiting the Porridge Festival! Not only will they tell you about the methods of preparing a dish so respected by our ancestors, they will introduce you to the attributes of cooks, but they will also provide an opportunity to test your own strength as a "chef".
Church of Christ's Sunday
The attractions of Kashin do not end there. Among them is the Church of Christ's Resurrection. It stands at the very entrance to the city and immediately catches the eye. Its bell tower can be seen from afar - its height is 76 meters. It is equipped with impressive chimes. The church wasbuilt in 1867. It fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape - the buildings left from the ancient city Kremlin and the picturesque hills that once served as a fortification. The cathedral was supposed to become a symbol of the city and outshine the temples of other large cities with its splendor. Such, for example, as Kalyazin.
What to see in the neighborhood
The sights of Kashin and Kalyazin are not inferior to each other in beauty. The buildings of the latter (in the old part of the city) date back to the 18th-19th centuries: residential buildings, Vvedenskaya and Voznesenskaya churches. However, you won't be bored. Both adults and children will certainly be interested in visiting Baba Yaga's residence.
Fairytale house and interior decoration will take you back to your childhood. Baba Yaga is not at all evil: the old woman will feed you pies, give you tea and make you dance. There is no doubt that the reviews of the guests of the residence leave the most positive. In addition, people who have visited Kalyazin recommend visiting the local museum of local lore. A small but meaningful exposition will tell about the history of the city. In addition, it will be interesting to look at the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, the monument to Mikhail Skopin-Shuisky and the bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral. The latter is considered a symbol of the city.
