Moscow is famous for its sights, old streets and ancient buildings. Bolshoy Afanasevsky Lane is located between the Arbat and Gagarinsky Lane. There are many interesting buildings erected in the XVIII-XIX centuries.
How did the name come about?
Like many other streets in Moscow, Afanasyevskiye lanes, both Bolshoi and Maly, got their name in the 18th century. The lane was named after the church in the name of the Saints of Alexandria - Athanasius and Cyril. However, the structure of the temple was destroyed by fire in 1812. Mrs. Yushkova P. P. restored the temple in 1815 at her own expense. Therefore, for some time the lane bore her name - Yushkov. And from 1960 to 1994, the lane was called Myaskovsky in honor of the famous composer.
Lane on the map
Bolshoy Afanasyevsky lane takes its beginning from Gagarinsky, as if continuing Chertolsky. Then the street goes north, parallel to Gogol Boulevard. After the intersection of Sivtsev Vrazhek, the lane turned into Maly Afanasevsky.
The lane is only 180 longmeters. Nearby metro stations: Arbatskaya and Kropotkinskaya.
Houses and famous people
In Bolshoy Afanasyevsky Lane in Moscow, famous people lived at different times. At the intersection with Sivtsev Vrazhek lane, the famous mayor Fedor Rostopchin lived when he served in 1812.
In the house of Princess Gorchakova, Stankevich Nikolai, a Russian philosopher, lived. There were the possessions of the writer Aksakov S., to whom Gogol Nikolai came to visit.
In this alley was the estate of grandfather S altykov-Shchedrin, and the writer himself often visited here in his childhood.
The brokerage house of Mr. Khlebnikov was also located here, from whom A. Pushkin rented the property.
House 24
This house in Bolshoi Afanasevsky Lane is classified as a cultural heritage site of regional significance. Initially, the estate belonged to the Zinoviev-Yusupov family. Stolnik Zinoviev built from stone for 30 years. And in 1685, he received a loan to build a house.
The building itself consists of two small buildings, which over time were united by a second floor. Over time, a house church was equipped in the house.
In 1776, house number 24 in Bolshoy Afanasyevsky Lane already belonged to Leo Tolstoy's great-grandfather. The most recent owner was Leo Tolstoy's brother, Alexander Bers, with his wife, a Georgian princess. He died in 1918.
A third floor appeared near the house at the end of the last century. The facade of the building also changed frequently: then the owners followed fashion trends andthey remade it in the Empire style, then in the eclectic style, that is, by now it was already impossible to recognize the chambers built in the 17th century.
Reconstruction
At the beginning of our century, a profitable neighbor was deprived of a house, then all outbuildings were demolished. The architectural landmark was forgotten for a while, the house did not even have a roof.
In 2002, the developer CJSC Lastea-ART received ownership of a land plot for the construction of a residential complex, and also became the owner of the Zinoviev-Yusupov house.
The company for three years, from 2003 to 2006, carried out emergency response measures, removed the third floor and extensions. The foundation was also strengthened.
After 4 years, complex restoration work was carried out, the house acquired the appearance inherent in the 18th century. In 2012, all work was completed, and the restorers received a prize in the nomination "For the best restoration project". Now the Museum of the International Numismatic Club operates here.
Residential Complex
Directly behind the museum now flaunts a huge residential complex "Afanasevsky". This is a respectable Class A building. The house has its own courtyard. The proximity of a residential building in Bolshoi Afanasevsky Lane to the metro makes it even more attractive. Arbatskaya station (Filyovskaya line) is only 300 meters away, and Kropotkinskaya station is 700 meters away.
The house has two residential complexes combined into onewith the chambers of the Zinovievs. The building itself has a monolithic frame and brick walls. All elevators do not have a machine room and descend directly to the car parking floor, which has two levels. The entire building is equipped with fire extinguishing equipment and video surveillance.
On the first floors of the buildings there are rooms for wheelchairs and recreation areas. And from the front lobby you can get to any part of the complex. The house itself is small, with only 52 apartments - 2 on each floor.
And this is not the only interesting street in Moscow, the capital has many sights and ancient buildings.
