Lego history

In 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen founded his own toy company near the village of Billund in Denmark. Two years later, the company got its unique name LEGO (play well), which is still used today. In 1942, a fire broke out at the toy factory, but the company found the strength to restore, and the production of wooden toys continued.

The LEGO company released its first plastic toy after the Second World War, but so far they were popular only in Denmark. Later, the first shopping center for the sale of LEGO designers was created inGermany. After another fire, in which a warehouse with wooden toys was completely destroyed, they decided to stop production.

Further, the development of the designer began to increase at a rapid pace: small human figures, cars, sets of pirate ships and construction equipment were invented.

How did the museum come about?

The idea to create a Lego museum appeared in 2010 from a private collector, Milose Krzechka. By that time, he had already collected more than 1000 different models that had nowhere to put at home. This is how the museum project was born, in which collections of Lego bricks were exhibited to the general public.

Because Mr. Krzeczek continues to collect construction toys, the exhibition space in Prague has ceased to accommodate all the exhibits. After that, branches of the museum were opened in such cities as Kutna Hora, Liberec and Spindleruv Mlyn.
