Boeing 757-200 is one of the most popular liners among airlines. This medium-haul narrow-body aircraft has been in operation for more than two decades, and will probably be used for a very, very long time. What are the reasons for such popularity of B 757-200?

New in everything

In order to better understand the essence, it is worthwhile to first conduct a brief historical digression. Boeing and Airbus - the alpha and omega of the aviation industry - have been competing with each other for decades to be called the manufacturer of the best aircraft in the world. Today they breathe almost head to head - but in the 80s, Boeing was ahead of the curve in almost everything, including innovation in its latest models.

So, in 1983, after much work by Boeing engineers who designed a replacement for their Boeing 727 and 737, which had already departed, the first B 757-200 appeared. A number of technological innovations introduced in this model did not haveanalogues neither in other Boeing aircraft produced before, nor in the same Airbus liners, or even more so from other manufacturers.

For example, for the first time in the history of the creation of aircraft, computers were placed in the cockpit that gave out important flight information and calculated the parameters of the aircraft's movement. In addition, the cabin of the aircraft has become more comfortable than ever before. In a word, the launch of the novelty was successful - the B 757-200 set a new bar, which was equaled by many after the model.

The B 757-200, the photo of which you can see above, is not too big and has an average size by the standards of civil aviation. However, this is only in words - but in reality the ship looks very impressive, including in terms of size. So, its length is 47 meters, its height is 13.5, and its wingspan is 38 meters.

It is capable of taking on board up to 239 passengers at the same time, delivering them to their destination at a speed of 850 km/h (cruising). The maximum flight range of the Boeing 757-200 is 7600 kilometers, which allows it to be used even for flights from the Atlantic coast in the USA to Western Europe.

Choosing seats on the plane (using UTAir as an example)

The B 757-200 aircraft, the cabin layout of which is shown in the picture, does not fundamentally differ in its design from any more or less modern Boeing or Airbus aircraft, and general advice on choosing seats on the plane will be relevant for him. However, there are features that you should be aware of.

  • The width of the seats in the second row will be slightly narrower than in any other, which is caused by being in the armrest of the folding table.
  • In the 15th row, the side seats may not have a porthole.
  • In seat 31A, you will have less free space, as part of it is occupied by an emergency door.

Otherwise, everything is standard: it is not recommended to choose seats near the toilets and the kitchen, the same applies to emergency exits, which, however, have their advantages (more free legroom with a few exceptions, as with seat 31A).

The seating arrangement on an airplane is pretty standard - 3-3.

Competitors and successors of the model

The B 757-200's main competitor is the Airbus A321 model, produced by the already mentioned European aircraft manufacturing concern. At the same time, the Airbus is slightly inferior to Boeing in the number of passengers carried, since a European can take a maximum of 220 passengers compared to 239 from Boeing, and is much weaker in terms of flight range - it is as much as 2000 kilometers less.

The direct successor of this aircraft was the Boeing 757-300, which received a larger passenger capacity and an elongated fuselage. The first Boeing 757-300 was released in 1998 - and the period between this date and the time of release of the 757-200, which is as much as 15 years, clearly indicates the extreme "success"last.

Boeing Corporation has produced 913 Boeing 757-200 aircraft, which, according to statistics, have become one of the safest flying objects.
