The history of Hong Kong is very interesting. This city-state is an autonomous part of China, although its political system is far from communist.
A Brief History of Hong Kong
In the middle of the 19th century, on the site of today's Hong Kong, there was a group of islands whose inhabitants hunted by fishing. They wandered from place to place, looking for a more suitable corner for their simple living. Only one island had the name Hong Kong. So it was during this period of time that the United Kingdom became interested in the islands, which needed a suitable harbor for trading opium with the Celestial Empire, and Hong Kong became exactly the port that suited them perfectly. British politicians and businessmen proclaimed the island their colony, having achieved its sovereignty, and later Hong Kong became the capital of the east developed by Britain.
However, China also did not stand still, but intensively grew stronger and developed, however, in a completely opposite direction from democracy and capitalism. And when the time came to return the island, the authorities of both countries faced an ethical and moral problem. Communist China is notcould put up with the democratic system that prevails on the island, and in 1997 both countries made Hong Kong an autonomous part of China for fifty years. Hong Kong is still the capital of political and economic freedom, but the Chinese army is now stationed on its territory.
