Oktyabrskoye Pole station certainly does not belong to the outstanding works of underground architecture, which can be found in the Moscow metro. Nevertheless, this object of the transport infrastructure of the capital and the place where it is located deserve attention. There are simply no interesting places in Moscow.

From Moscow history

Until the middle of the twentieth century, this area, located to the west of the Moscow circular railway, remained almost undeveloped. It was called "Warfield". And there were quite specific reasons for such a toponym - this vast wasteland in the north-west of the capital was used for a long time as a tactical training ground for military exercises of units stationed in the neighborhood, on the Khodynka field. Artillery depots and training fortifications were located here, guns were fired at established targets. Since 1922, the territory has become known as the "October field". And in the post-war period, starting in 1948, its planned development with residential buildings began. The constructed streets were named after prominent Soviet generals. In 1972, the Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station appeared here. After that, the area becamefully integrated into the urban transport system. Linking to the subway scheme always opens up new development prospects for urban areas and automatically removes them from the category of outskirts.

On the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line

The Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station received its first passengers two days before the onset of 1973. She entered service as a closing station as part of the launch site from Barrikadnaya. Currently, the Oktyabrskoye Pole is located between the Schukinskaya and Polezhaevskaya stations. According to its constructive type, this is a columned three-span station of shallow laying. There are currently no transfers to other lines. From the station there is access to the streets: People's Militia, Marshal Malinovsky, Marshal Sokolovsky, Marshal Biryuzov.

Further prospects

In the plans for the development of the Moscow metro, the Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station is assigned the role of a transfer hub. It should perform its function after the completion of the construction of the second ring circuit in the Moscow metro, which will connect the peripheral areas of the capital. The transfer will be carried out from the Big Ring to the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line. The prospect of track development was incorporated into the design of the Oktyabrskoye Pole station at the time of its design and construction. The technological reserve for the future transition is expressed in the strengthening of the columns inthe center of the hall and reducing the distances between them.

Architectural features

Developers and builders in their professional jargon call such a typical project "centipede". Due to the presence of two rows of support columns, twenty pieces each. There are quite a lot of similar stations both in Moscow and in other cities of the former Soviet Union, where the subway was built in the sixties and early seventies. Despite the fact that the design of the station is typical, the authors have done everything possible to give it features of expressiveness and individuality. This was achieved mainly due to the decorative design of the interior. Anodized aluminum was used here for the first time in the Moscow metro for the columns in the center of the hall. In the design of the track walls and flooring, marble and granite of gray colors were used. The walls are also decorated with metal decorative panels "Hammer and Sickle".

Coping with excesses

The architectural design of the Oktyabrskoye Pole station is a typical attempt to overcome the trend that dominated the metro construction throughout the sixties. It was caused by the well-known resolution of the party and government "On the fight against architectural excesses." In practice, it destroyed any architecture, except for the typical one. And it led to the creation of identical faceless stations. They can be found in abundance on the outskirts of Moscow, especiallyon Filevskaya and Arbatskaya lines. But the stations that were built in the seventies, like the "October Field", the architects still tried to give individuality. As far as it allowed to make a typical project. Only in the second half of the 1970s, when designing and building stations on the Kalininskaya Line, was it possible for Moscow metro builders to finally overcome the effect of the decree on excesses.
