Going on a trip to Europe, it's hard to decide exactly where to go. One of the most interesting and popular places among tourists is the city of Brasov in Romania. If you have made your choice in favor of it, this article will tell you about all the best attractions in the city.
History
On the map of Romania, Brasov appeared in the Middle Ages. The Saxon charm permeated the city far and wide and has survived to this day. At the beginning of the 13th century, the Saxons came to the lands of Romania. The first mention of the city dates back to 1235, where it was said about the settlement of Corona. When exactly Brasov was founded in Romania, a photo of which can be found below, is unknown. During its centuries-old history, the city has changed many names, such as Kronstadt, Brasco, Stefanopolis, Brassov and Orashul-Stalin.
The city is famous for the first printing and publishing house in Transylvania in 1535. Some sources claim that it was here in 1559 that the first Romanian-language school was founded in the country. Brasov (Romania) also became famous as the birthplace of the leaderTransylvanian Protestants Johannes Honterus.
Climate
Summer temperatures average 25 degrees Celsius. In winter, at the foot of the mountains - about minus 15. With the rise up, the temperature drops, so if you are coming here for a ski holiday, more warm clothes will not hurt. Compared to the Alps, the weather in Brasov (Romania) is cooler.
Mount Tympa
Nature reserve and custodian of rare species of plants and wild animals. This attraction of Brasov in Romania rises above the sea at an altitude of about a kilometer. Thousands of years ago, people here worshiped various gods. On the site of the former fortress of Brasovia, there is now an observation deck with a gorgeous view. From here you can see absolutely all the sights of Brasov in Romania, which will also be discussed in this article. A hiking forest path with 25 serpentines leads to the top. It takes at least an hour to climb. After 10 minutes on the way, you will definitely meet a bear. There is also a funicular that takes you to the top in just 3 minutes.
Black Church
The construction of this attraction in Romania, in Brasov in particular, was carried out for almost a century. At first, the monument was the Catholic church of St. Mary. In 1547, an Evangelical Lutheran church was opened here. The attraction is included in the list of the largest temples in the southeastern part of Europe. Now on the territory of the church there is a museum, as well as the Bucholz organ. You can see a large exposition, a collection of Turkish carpetsof the Middle Ages and the heaviest bell in Romania.
Ryshnov Fortress
This landmark of the city is located on the way to Bran Castle. The fortress was built instead of the former photo of the knights of the Teutonic Order. Then there was a trade route between the principalities of Wallachia and Transylvania. The fortress was built because of the Tatar invasions, which devastated the villages. Residents fled to the forest areas of the Carpathians. Several villages, united, began the construction of a fortress, which was to save their lives.
At the very top of the mountain rises the Ryshnov Fortress, protected by a rock and slopes. The only road leads to it only from the south side. During the raid, the inhabitants of the settlement climbed along it, after which they closed the gates. Opponents fell into deep ditches and were shelled with stones and arrows. For many centuries the fortress was famous for its rebelliousness. Nobody managed to take the “defender” by storm. Only once the army of Prince Gabriel Bathory of Transylvania was able to force people to surrender. During a long siege, they found a source of water and blocked it. The inhabitants had no choice but to surrender, and in a couple of years to buy Ryshnov. For about 17 years, Turkish captives dug a well, about 150 meters deep.
Strada Sforii Street
This landmark of Brasov attracts tourists not only as a historical site, but also as a fun and interesting place. The word "sforium" in Russian can be translated as "rope". The street was named so because of its width - 111 meters. Initially, inIn the 16th century, it was a passage for firefighters, which is why not a single door goes out into the street. Strada Sforii is 80 meters long, and in fact is an alley.
Catherine's Gate
Like in any other historical city in Brasov, there was a fortress wall with guarded gates. Now, only the gates of Catherine have been preserved in their almost original form. Also, the monastery of St. Catherine used to be located here, which gave its name to the gate.
In the 16th century, by the forces of nature, or rather as a result of a flood, the gates were demolished, because of which they had to be replaced with new ones in 1559. The appearance of the attraction was destroyed by fire and earthquake in 1689 and 1738, respectively. In the 19th century, a reconstruction was carried out, during which several towers were added.
Of the former and untouched by natural disasters buildings from the 16th century, only one central tower has survived. Now it is located in the Bastion of the weavers. This is where the model city has been since the 17th century.
It is interesting that the Romanians of the Shkei region could get to Brasov only through the gates of Catherine, the rest of the ways were closed to them. Because of this, the attraction acquired another name - the Wallachian Gate. In the period from the 13th to the 17th centuries, Romanians were not allowed inside the fortress at all. They had to live on the other side and only enter the city at certain times for money.
Like other buildings of its time, Catherine's Gate served for defense. There was also a drawbridge here. Now at the gatethere is a museum.
Skei Gate
Next to the previous attraction, there is a gate with the interesting name Shkei. Due to the expansion of the traffic flow, it was decided to build another gate. They were built in the year 1827-1828. Due to their breadth, they managed to completely supplant their predecessors, which were closed and used as storage facilities. Now the Shkei gate is decorated in the Baroque style and differs from its original appearance.
