The city of Dzhankoy (Crimea) is a small and cozy settlement located near Simferopol. Despite its small area, it is an important railway junction, as it is the first to meet all tourists who come to the peninsula. Translated from the Crimean Tatar dialect, its name means "sweet village". The first mention in the annals of this city was made in the eighteenth century.

Historical facts

Dzhankoy (Crimea) has a very rich past associated with the activities of Jewish communities on its territory. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a Zionist organization was founded here, as well as a training center for agricultural work. A little later, an agricultural community of Jews was organized near the Kolai station, and ten years later it was turned into a collective farm. During the Second World War, this community was destroyed.

Today, the city of Dzhankoy (Crimea) is one of the largest centers for the processing of agricultural products and the production of related equipment.

Description

This regional center is located ten kilometers west of the tributary called Sivash and is under republican subordination. The locals call this city among themselves"The Gates of Crimea", as vacationers heading further to the peninsula often stop there.

One canal passes through the entire territory of the regional center, and two rivers also flow. Therefore, Dzhankoy (Crimea) is well supplied with fresh water, which cannot be said about other settlements of the peninsula.

Its area is approximately 26 square kilometers of the North Crimean Plain, so the relief of this area does not have large hills and drops.

This Crimean city has a typical steppe climate. It is characterized by dry and moderately hot weather. Dzhankoy (Crimea) is surrounded by large hills, so it is protected from cold winds. Approximately 420 millimeters of precipitation falls annually.

The average summer temperature is about +24 degrees Celsius. Winter here is always mild and almost without snow. In January, the thermometer can drop to a maximum of -2 frost. Due to the proximity of the inflow, the air in this city is endowed with healing properties and has beneficial trace elements.

Dzhankoy (Crimea) is located far from the sea coast, therefore, unfortunately, it cannot boast of sandy beaches. But this city, of course, also has its own interesting sides that attract tourists here.

For example, many people like the nature of this place, which has amazing picturesque landscapes. In the vicinity of the city there is a regional reserve. Its area is about twelvethousand hectares, and the inhabitants of this landscape park are more than a hundred species of various birds.

Dzhankoy (Crimea) has another big advantage over other cities of the peninsula. Rest in this village will take place in a pleasant atmosphere without too much fuss, due to the absence of a large number of tourists. This place is ideal for those who want to spend their holidays or weekends in peace and tranquility.

If we talk about architectural monuments, then, undoubtedly, it is worth visiting the railway station after a recent overhaul and a small but beautiful mosque.

You can't come to rest in Dzhankoy and not taste the local wines. These alcoholic drinks are made here according to special recipes that have been preserved since ancient times. In addition, there are many restaurants and cafes in the district center, offering their visitors to get acquainted with the dishes of the amazing Crimean Tatar cuisine. This city also grows a large number of fruits and vegetables that have beneficial vitamins.

Nightlife lovers can find a variety of clubs, bars and discos in the city. Also in Dzhankoy there is a cinema, a stadium, saunas and baths.

Tourists mostly stay here for a short time, and sometimes just stay for one or two nights. Therefore, the private sector is not offered for rent here. But in the city there are several excellent and inexpensive hotels where you can have a great rest. The most popular of them are: "Karpaty", "Chocolate", "Royal Compound" and "Tavriya".

From Russia, the easiest way to get here is by train. Trains from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Perm and other large Russian cities follow there. Further from this settlement you can get to any point of the Crimean peninsula, as it is the crossroads of all the main railways and highways of the Republic.
