Trinity Bridge is a real decoration of the Northern capital. Its majesty and power, combined with a unique decorated pattern and rich history, make it a real find not only for ordinary tourists, but also for professional designers and engineers.
Troitsky Bridge was erected in 1824 on the site of the Petersburg Bridge and at first it was also a pontoon, that is, floating. An interesting detail: at first they wanted to name this building in honor of Suvorov, whose monument is located in the immediate vicinity, but later Trinity Square with the cathedral of the same name located on it was taken as a landmark.
The city grew, and so did its needs. The pontoon bridge no longer corresponded to the current moment, so it was decided to build a permanent one. The final decision was made in 1892, after which not even an all-Russian, but an international competition for projects was announced. G. Eiffel's company won, but it never managed to realize its plans. Construction called "Trinity Bridge. St. Petersburg" began to build another French company -Batignolles, whose project favorably differed in low cost, and it was assumed that both workers and materials would be domestic.
In parallel with the construction of the main structure, the embankments were covered with granite, which connected the Trinity Bridge, Ioannovsky and Sampsonevsky. In total, about 1100 meters of area turned out to be under the granite. The grand opening of this part of the city was specially timed to coincide with a memorable date - the bicentenary of the founding of St. Petersburg. This event, which took place in an extremely solemn atmosphere, was attended by the first persons of the city and state, as well as the President of France, for whose retinue a special tent was pitched.
The revolution that took place in 1917 led to the fact that the Trinity Bridge was renamed. A year later, it received the proud name of the Equality Bridge, and from 1934 it became Kirov Bridge for a long 57 years. Only with the end of the Soviet era was this magnificent engineering structure returned to its former name.
In the terrible years of 1941-1944. Leningrad, as you know, was under blockade for a long nine hundred days. During all this time, hundreds of thousands of shells, bombs and cartridges were fired at the city, but the Trinity Bridge suffered little damage. Only twenty years later, the first major reconstruction was carried out, which turned it into a modern engineering structure. Also, quite serious work was carried out on the eve of the celebration of the city's tercentenary anniversary, the result of which wasreturning the bridge to its former elegance.
Today, the total length of the structure exceeds 580 meters, and the part that rises above the river is about a hundred meters. Troitsky Bridge on the map of St. Petersburg attractions takes its rightful place. It is far from accidental that for several years now it has been an object of Russia's cultural heritage. Thousands of tourists admire it both during the day and at night.
