Basic information about the city

First of all, you should pay attention to the meaning of the word "Anadyr". In historical chronicles, the name "Onandyr" is found, which is translated as "Chukotka river". It is interesting that the local population calls the settlement in a completely different way and it translates as "mouth", "entrance" and also "hole".

Anadyr lies near the right bank of the river of the same name, which flows into the Anadyr Bay of the Bering Sea. This is where the permafrost zone is located.

It is worth noting that the described city is the most sparsely populated region of the country. Only fifteen thousand people live here. Many people dream of appreciating life in this place. Butto truly feel it, you need to travel through the tundra or live in nearby villages for several days. It is especially worth paying attention to the Coal Mines (this is a completely different side of the estuary). After that, Anadyr will seem like the best place on the planet.

Major events in the history of the city

The city appeared in August 1889 by decree of the government of the Russian Empire. This was done by a Russian military doctor and part-time polar explorer - Leonid Frantsevich Grinevetsky. From that moment, the development of the settlement actually began. Of course, it happened quite slowly. The emphasis was mainly on state-owned and private trading warehouses.

Later a long-wave radio station was built here, which was the most powerful in the 20th century in the whole country. A big impetus in the development of the city was the construction on the other side of a large seaport in the fifties of the twentieth century. And later a dam was erected, and by 1963 a water pipe was installed in Anadyr.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, life in the city has changed a bit. So, in 2004, the municipality was given the status of an urban district and the rural settlement of Tavayvaam became part of it. It is also interesting that the city does not have an administrative-territorial division into districts, and most of the buildings here are built on piles. Basically, these are very brightly decorated five-story block "Khrushchev" buildings.

City attractions

Because the city is quite small, there is not muchattractions, but they are all very unusual. It is worth starting with the most famous city monuments. Once you hear about them, you will definitely want to visit the city at least once.

The article shows the sights of Anadyr with names.

Holy Trinity Cathedral

Holy Trinity Cathedral

There are practically no cathedrals of this size, located in permafrost conditions, in the world. More than a thousand people can attend the service here at the same time. It is worth noting that for the most part the cathedral impresses with its unusual architecture. For the construction of this attraction of Anadyr, pine, as well as calibrated larch, were brought to the city from the Omsk region. These materials withstand exposure to moisture as well as low temperatures.

In addition, all the limits in this cathedral are connected by one roof, and this is a huge rarity in places of worship in Russia. Special refrigeration units are also located here, thanks to which the soil does not thaw in the summer.

This majestic cathedral was built in a very short amount of time. Only three years had passed since the decision to build, when the temple was already ready. Roman Abramovich donated money for the construction, as well as some residents of the district.

Thissight of Anadyr, the photo of which can be seen in the article, is considered the largest monument in the world built in honor of this saint. The author is Sergey Isakov.

The figure looks very majestic. It rises on a pedestal, and the total height of the monument is four meters. As you know, the first rays of the sun on the eastern borders fall on this monument.

It is also amazing that when the figure was transported through the Gulf of Anadyr, the storm that was at that time immediately subsided. Believers considered that this phenomenon is a kind of blessing from above.

Now this attraction of Anadyr, the description of which you are reading, is located at the address: Lenin Street, 17.

The famous lake with an unpronounceable name. From the Chukchi language, the name is translated as "white lake". The reservoir is not located in the city itself, but 390 km from it, so it is considered a landmark of the Anadyr region.

According to scientists, this reservoir appeared more than three million years ago on the site of an extinct volcano. It is worth noting that there has never been a glaciation here and relict fish are still found here, that is, those that cannot be seen in other places.

You can only view this wonderful body of water from a helicopter, because there are no settlements nearby, as well as no roads leading to the lake.
