In the southern part of Tajikistan, in the most beautiful Gissar valley, the magnificent city of Dushanbe is located. It is the largest city in the country with a population of 661,100 people. The majority of the population are Tajiks, a little over 20% are Uzbeks. The Russian population accounts for 5.1%, and 2.4% are other nationalities.
Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan. In the central part of the city, there is an artificial lake Komsomolskoye, which is fed by the Dushanbinka River, which flows through the city. Continental climate prevails on its territory.
Like all cities, the capital of Tajikistan has its own history. Initially, there was a small settlement here. It was at a crossroads. A market was organized here on Monday. It is with this that the name of the city is connected, since Monday in Tajik sounds “dushanbe”. Power passed from one hand to another, and in 1922 the Bolsheviks began to rule in the city. It was in this year that he was proclaimed the capital of the country.
The capital of Tajikistan did not always have the name we know now. During the reign of Stalin, the name of this settlement was Stalinabad, and after 1961 - Dushanbe again. In 1929, the first railway was built, which gave impetus to the development of the food, textile and electrical industries. In addition, mechanical engineering began its development at a rapid pace. All this led to the growth of the city. Now there is the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, 6 theaters, 8 universities, including the Tajik University, a huge number of museums.
The capital of Tajikistan has a number of other attractions, most of which are located on the main street. It is recommended to start the tour from Sadriddin Aini Square, in the center of which there is a monument to the writer. Around him are many sculptures depicting characters from his works. The most beautiful place in the city is the square named after the 800th anniversary of the city of Moscow, which is surrounded by plantings of Indian lilacs. There is a large fountain in the very center.
Another place worthy of attention is Dusti Square, in the central part of which there is a monument to Ismail Samani. Among the architectural structures, the Presidential Palace, located on Putovsky Square, decorated with flowers, fountains and lush alleys, should be noted. Of particular interest is the Hissar fortress, which was once the residence of the governor of the Emir of Bukhara. The walls of this structure are up to one meter thick. Opposite the entrance to the fortress you can see the ancientmadrasah (17th century).
But that's not all that you can see when you come to Tajikistan. Dushanbe has several parks, the most beautiful of which are those located near Komsomolskoye Lake. No less popular is the Central Botanical Garden, which has more than 4,500 plants in its collection.
However, Dushanbe is not all of Tajikistan. The nature of the country is something that really deserves attention. There are many rivers and lakes here. The lakes of the republic are located mainly in the Pamirs and in the mountains of Central Tajikistan. The largest of them is Karakul. Lakes Yashilkul and Sarez were formed as a result of mountain collapses and earthquakes.
The country is visited annually by many tourists who love extreme sports. In addition, Tajikistan is a center of mountain tourism and mountaineering. The mountains of this country are the most picturesque places.
