The situation was changed by the Great Patriotic War. Then trains with machine tools and equipment from evacuated enterprises began to arrive in the regional center. Shops of new factories were erected on the left bank. Working quarters grew up around industrial facilities.

Two large unfinished buildings, enclosed by gray concrete fences, spoiled the landscape. erectionPalace of Culture "Sibselmash" was completed by a new investor, who turned a potential center of culture into a profitable mall. Another symbol of the era of socialism has been in an unfinished state for exactly half a century.

Even in the summer of 1968, work began on preparing the foundation for the Tourist Hotel. A comfortable hotel with a cinema hall, a restaurant, high-speed elevators was supposed to be an exemplary institution. The construction of the panel box of the 17-storey building was completed in 1979. However, it turned out that the quicksand, located under the structure, reduces the bearing capacity of the foundation. A large amount of concrete is required to strengthen the structure. The construction was stopped. The question of completing the construction of the hotel was raised several times. But each time the projects never came to fruition. The prospects of an object are best defined by a paraphrased catchphrase - "you can't complete the construction."
