Belgrade, Nikola Tesla airport: basic information and historical background

This air harbor is the largest and busiest in all of Serbia. Belgrade Airport got its name in honor of the greatest inventor Nikola Tesla, who was a Serb by nationality. The airfield is located just 12 kilometers from the city center, at an altitude of 98 meters above sea level. The first building of the airport was built in 1927, and a year later the planes of the local Aeroput airline began to fly from here. In 1931, a new terminal was built on the territory of the port, and in 1936 all conditions were created foraircraft landing in poor visibility. During the Second World War, the airport was used for their own purposes by German troops, who left it only in 1944.

Despite the fact that this air harbor is one of the largest in the Balkans, in size it is significantly inferior, for example, to the international airports of Istanbul, Amsterdam or Moscow. So, in "Nikola Tesla" there are only two terminals. A large-scale reconstruction was carried out in terminal number two several years ago, and today it accounts for the main passenger flow for both domestic and international traffic. Terminal number one, for quite a long time, was the only one at the Belgrade airport. But since 2010, he has mainly specialized in charter flights and low-cost flights.

How to get to the air harbor of the Serbian capital?

There are several options for getting from the city to Belgrade Airport. You can use taxi services. Locals recommend contacting Pink Taxi or Juty Taxi. On average, the cost of such a trip will cost you 2000 dinars, or 600 rubles.

If you want to save money, you can get to the airport on a special bus that runs between the air harbor and the center of Belgrade. An added convenience is that it also stops at the train station. A trip on it will cost only 250 dinars (80 rubles). You will get to Belgrade airport from the centerin just half an hour.

However, the most budget option is to take a regular city bus number 72. The cost of the trip is only 120 dinars (or 40 rubles).

Belgrade Airport, according to numerous travelers, is a very comfortable and convenient air harbor. There are enough seats, several cafes, duty-free shops, souvenir shops and newsstands.
