Historical background
Lipetsk Airport was built in 1966. At that time, it was designed to serve no more than 100 passengers. In 1987, a new terminal was put into operation, designed by Soviet architects Alexandrov and Trofimova, with a capacity of up to 200 passengers. By the end of the 1990s, passenger traffic fell sharply, so it was decided to use the airport exclusively for business purposes.
In the 2000s. the air hub again began to serve passenger air transportation. In 2004, on the basis of the airport, a state enterprise was created, called the Lipetsk Airport. Already in 2006, thanks to the construction of an instrumental landing system, the airfield began to receiveaircraft in poor visibility, and all divisions of the enterprise were connected by a fiber-optic communication line. In 2008, the airport received permission to serve international passenger flights. However, the first international flight from Lipetsk to Milan took place 7 years later - in 2015.
Lipetsk Airport: reconstruction
Reconstruction and modernization of the airport throughout its history were made repeatedly. The latest work on the reconstruction of the airport began in 2013. Their cost exceeds 1 billion rubles. The funds were allocated by the federal budget and the authorities of the region. The project is being implemented by the regional administration and the Ministry of Transport within the framework of the federal program for the development of the transport network of the Russian Federation.
The work involves the modernization of the terminal building, the lengthening of the runway, the construction of the building of the control tower, the installation of a light signal system for receiving aircraft in adverse weather conditions, and the construction of a new drainage system.
