In the capital of the Russian Federation, there are not so many infrastructure facilities whose names are associated with the capitals of other states. But they do exist, and Rimskaya station is an example of this. The metro in Moscow, in addition to it, has three more stations with similar names - "Prazhskaya", "Rizhskaya" and "Alma-Ata". So far, nothing is known about whether there will ever be more such points, or the tradition will not continue…

Moscow metro map: "Rimskaya" near Rogozhskaya Zastava

Rimskaya metro station of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line received its first passengers two days before the New Year 1996. It is located between the stops "Krestyanskaya Zastava" and "Chkalovskaya" and is a transition to the "Ploshchad Ilyich" of the Kalininskaya line. One often hears questions about what caused the choice of such a not quite tradition altoponym - "Roman"? Metro "Rogozhskaya Zastava" - after the name of the historical district of Moscow, where it is located - would be much more appropriate. By the way, this is how the future station was designated in the project documentation. But the political desire of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov to make a noble gesture towards a friendly country turned out to be a priority. This is how the Rimskaya station appeared in Moscow. The Rome Metro does not yet have a Moskovskaya station, but there is information that such an object will soon appear there. As a response. It will be called "Moscow", and will be located not just anywhere, but in the very center of the Italian capital, not far from the Vatican.

Architectural features

According to its constructive solution, "Rimskaya" is a columned three-vaulted station of deep occurrence. It would be surprising if the architectural solution of this object would not contain any elements that make one recall the ancient classics and the imperial grandeur of ancient Rome. That is why the predominant finishing material for the interior design here is marble of light colors. It can be seen on the columns and pilasters, evenly spaced throughout the space of the main hall. The flooring is composed of alternating gray, black and reddish granite slabs.

Fountain

Famous Italian interior designers Quatrocci had a hand in the design of the stationand Imbriga. This circumstance makes even more justified its name - "Roman". The metro in Moscow is filled with a significant number of unique works of art and other artifacts. These include unique interior solutions, sculptures, mosaic panels. But the fountain in underground Moscow exists only in one copy, and you can see it at the Rimskaya metro station. And besides the fountain, there is also a sculptural composition with the capitals of the columns. Its main characters are the infants Romulus and Remus, who are considered the founders of Rome. The author of the work is the sculptor L. Berlin. This sculptural composition looks very specific in the Moscow metro.

Rimskaya metro station: exits to the city

In the northern part of the main hall there is a transition to the Ploshad Ilyicha station of the Kalininskaya line. The entrance to the city is from the opposite side. The escalator delivers passengers to the ground lobby, the exit from which leads to the Entuziastov highway, Rabochaya and Mezhdunarodnaya streets, as well as to the Rogozhskaya Zastava square and the Hammer and Sickle railway platform of the Gorky direction. In the immediate vicinity is the platform "Moscow-tovarnaya" of the Kursk direction. The modern district of the historical Rogozhskaya Zastava is a rather lively place. Attractions

By coincidence of historical circumstances, the "Rimskaya" metro station of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line was located in the very center of the old Moscow district, formed back in the Middle Ages. It was called Rogozhka, or Rogozhskaya Sloboda, and was known as the traditional habitat of Russian Old Believers. But today they are mainly reminded of them by the Rogozhskoye cemetery with a church, where the service is conducted according to the canons of the old rite. Undoubtedly, the most important historical attraction of this area is the Spaso-Andronikov Monastery located here. It was founded in the middle of the fourteenth century and named after one of their closest associates and followers of Sergius of Radonezh, Abbot Andronicus. Among other things, the monastery is known as the place of detention of the head of the Russian schism, Archpriest Avvakum. The Spassky Cathedral of the Andronikov Monastery is one of the most ancient places of worship in Moscow. Next to Rogozhskaya Sloboda is the equally famous Moscow district of Lefortovo. People from Germany and other European countries traditionally settled here.
