There is a mountain on the Sinai Peninsula, to the top of which for more than two millennia, pilgrims from all over the world have been climbing day by day. According to the Bible, the Koran and the Torah, this is Mount Horeb, more commonly known today as the Mount of Moses. There are many mountain ranges in Egypt, but this one is special, it was here that the Almighty appeared to Moses in fire over the Burning Bush. It is here that pilgrims have been striving since ancient times to meet the sunrise in prayers and repentance.
The Mount of Moses in Egypt, called the "sacred peak" by the priests, rises 2285 meters above sea level. At night, it is an unforgettable sight - a fabulously beautiful serpentine of hundreds of lights (the light of lanterns rising up the slope of people) against the backdrop of majestic mountains. The first, sliding on the slopes, the rays of the sun introduce true believers into a religious trance, and ordinary tourists into indescribable delight.
Egypt. Mount Moses
Why are tours to the sacred peak held at night? According to some legend, those who metsunrise on Mount Moses in sincere repentance and prayers, the Lord forgives sins and fulfills the cherished (decent) desire. But there is an opinion that this parable was invented by enterprising Arabs. Be that as it may, the Mount of Moses in Egypt is a landmark of world significance.
The tour starts late in the evening (22 hours) from Sharm El Sheikh. The road to the monastery of St. Catherine by bus takes 3 hours. Two paths lead from the monastery to the top, which converge at the end of the path with steep steps covered with snow and ice. The first path consists of 3,100 steep steps carved into the rock by industrious monks. Shorter and more interesting (the church of the prophet Elijah and the chapel of the Mother of God are located past it), it is not in demand among tourists when climbing - it is more difficult, and you can only move along it on your own feet. Gently sloping, but much longer (8 km long and takes about 3 hours), the road provides many of the pleasures of the tourism industry. Numerous Bedouins along the way offer their services - from camel rental to Snickers. From time to time on the trail there are typically Arabic teahouses where you can take a breath, drink tea and have a bite to eat.
When going on a tour of Egypt, be sure to book an excursion to the sacred mountain. Having overcome all the difficulties of the way, seeing the Divine sunrise on the sacred mountain, many tourists descend with completely different people, with faith in God, pure thoughts and peace in their hearts.
