At this time, real Russian ships left the neighboring bay and caught the Turkish squadron by surprise. Such surprise gave the Russians an advantage, as the Turks were confused and could not prepare in time for a new battle. The Russians defeated the Turkish fleet, and this story gave the village of Divnomorsk the name "Fake Gelendzhik", which was the official name of the place until 1964.
