All this was erected so that the Russian people could come here for prayer and spiritual cleansing without making a long journey to the Middle East.

And the idea of "transferring" holy monasteries, like those in the Holy Land, to Russian lands has long been brewing. Even Boris Godunov conceived it. True, he planned to implement such a project right in the capital.

But, it so happened that it was in Istra, near Moscow, on the Istra River, called the Jordan near Moscow, in a beautiful and fertile place on the hill of Zion, the construction of such a temple complex began. Tentatively this happened in 1656.

Railway station

Currently, pilgrims from all over the country come to this holy place.

But in addition to temples and architectural monuments, the city also has a number of sanatoriums. Fortunately, the natural environment contributes to this. That is why many residents of other cities, including Muscovites, come here.

The Novoyerusalimskaya railway station, although it is a freight station, also accepts passengers who get to Istra by train. It is located on the line of the Moscow railway, in the Riga direction (Moscow-Smolensk center). According to historical information, until 1960, every long-distance train traveling in the direction of Moscow-Riga stopped here.

In the city itself, the Novoyerusalimskaya station is located in its southwestern part. There are two platforms on the territory of the station: high and low. There is also a large cargo yard. The one-story building of the station has a waiting room, a ticket office, a left-luggage office, and a pharmacy.

New Jerusalem railway station is the terminal for many electric trains. Only freight trains and electric trains depart from it.
