Starting from the sixties of the last century, Moscow has gained fame as a port of five seas. Navigation channels were included in the system, and the main waterways were deepened, which made it possible to travel along the “river-sea” route with access to five seas: Black, White, Azov, Caspian and B altic.

In the capital, the Moscow River is navigable (its entire length). The Moscow Canal is also navigable (it is connected to the river by a system of locks).

Three ports are equipped for cargo transshipment. For the transportation of passengers by water within the city, river buses (small motor ships) are provided, mooring at numerous marinas.

For those who plan long-distance cruises, separate river stations have been built, including the Northern River Station, which is also an architectural monument. In everyday life it is called Khimki.

Northern River Port is located on the Leningrad Highway (Khimki Reservoir). Refers to the Moscow River Shipping Company (SAO Moscow).

BuiltNorthern River Station in 1937, before the Khimki reservoir was filled. It has the shape of a huge ship. Among the characteristic architectural elements are a wide, rather spacious central staircase and a tall spire crowned with a star.

The entrance to the Northern River Station is decorated with majolica panels depicting, in particular, Moscow of the future. On the terraces of the station, you can admire two fountains, symbolically named "North" and "South", which implies a connection between all seas, in all directions. Unique chimes brought from the famous Resurrection Cathedral from Volokolamsk are built into the station tower.

At the service of those waiting - a restaurant located in the building. As conceived by the designers, a mechanism was installed in the tower that allows the spire to be lowered if necessary (at the end and resumption of navigation). But in all these years, it has only been done a few times.

The northern river port is one and a half kilometers long, half of which was built in the 60s. The rest was completed later.

Northern River Station - the point of departure for ships to Astrakhan, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, etc. Several special routes have been created for lovers of traveling by ship (Joy Bay, Troitsky Bay). Reservoir walks are very popular (no disembarkation).

Part of the cruises starts from the South station (Nagatinsky backwater), the rest (most) - from the North.

Northern River Station (Moscow) is located in the northwestern part of the capital(Leningrad highway).

The most convenient way to get to it is by metro, getting off at the Rechnoy Vokzal station. At the exit of the subway you will see the park. If you have the desire, strength and time, you can walk to the pier: a few minutes along the alley to Leningradsky Prospekt. From there you can see the station building.

You can get there in another way - after leaving the metro, immediately turn left and, without entering the park itself, go along the stalls to the underpass. Once on the other side of the Leningrad highway, you will see the Northern River Station - a tall building topped with a spire.
