Samara airport Kurumoch borrowed its unusual name from a village located next door. Beginning in December 1957, the Kuibyshev State Airport's runway was the most modern in the Soviet Union and was designed to receive high-speed aircraft.
History of development of Kurumoch Airport
Since its opening, the Kuibyshev airport has been used to train pilots to fly medium-haul Il-18 and An-10 aircraft. In February 1961, the first cargo flight was made from Kuibyshev to Moscow. During the perestroika period, the airport was part of Samara Airlines. In 2003, it became an independent, one-third state-owned institution.
