Climate and weather

Troodos (Cyprus) is famous for its wetter climate as rainfall increases and the average temperature is 10 degrees cooler than on the flat land. In hot weather, Cypriots come here to hide in the shade of a pine forest. By the way, people were hiding here not only from the heat, but also from the conquerors who ruled in neighboring cities.

The hottest months are July and August, but in winter the temperature does not rise above six degrees. December is recognized as the record holder for the highest amount of precipitation.

Mountain resorts

Mountain villages are so picturesque that they fall in love at first sight with tourists who have flown to rest in Cyprus. Troodos is not only mountains, but also beautiful resorts that appeared on the territory during the reign of the British. A quiet corner was chosen by the rich families of the Mediterranean, and the Egyptian king Farouk even bought a spacious villa. The summer residence of the President of the State is also located here.

Built on the slopes, hotels that are in no way inferior in comfort to coastal hotels welcome guests who prefer mountain holidays to beach holidays.

Walking in winter and summer

The delightful Troodos Mountains (Cyprus) are the only place in the resort where snow falls and tourists enjoy skiing with great pleasure. At the highest peak of Olympos, convenient lifts for vacationers have been built. In the summer months, in the vicinity of the snow-white mountain visible from afar, guests of the island walk along specially laid paths, which allow them to get to know the wonderfulmountain range nature. Tourists note that an exciting journey that takes up to five hours along four routes of different lengths leaves a lot of pleasant impressions.

Omodos

Traveling through the mountains, guests of the island get acquainted with wonderful villages, famous for their amazing views, and each one is worth visiting. Perhaps the most famous of them is Omodos, as if created for walking along the narrow streets. The village, located in the district of Limassol, is famous for its wonderful vineyards, and all guests must taste the head-turning intoxicating drink. In August, tourists get to a fun holiday, where they not only taste traditional wines and national dishes, but also take part in various competitions and entertainment.

But perhaps the main attraction of Omodos is the stone-built Church of the Holy Cross. This is one of the most significant places in Cyprus, known for important relics kept inside the temple: a fragment of the rope that tied Christ, and a particle of the Cross of the Lord. The shrines that came to the village in the 4th century are in the iconostasis, in front of which believers who come from different parts to Troodos (Cyprus) freeze.

Tourists love to take photos of the village in winter, when the old stone houses are covered with snow sparkling in the sun.

Agros

The village called Agros is a real expanse for lovers of hiking. Winemaking is not practiced here, but tourists know that the best rose water for baking comes from this place. Products are bottled in beautiful glass bottles, which are bought by tourists as a souvenir.

Brandy and liquor made from rose petals are in demand in the village, and, as guests of Agros admit, these are incredibly tasty drinks, so not a single tourist leaves without the products of local craftsmen.

Pedoulas

Troodos (Cyprus) is known throughout the world for its wonderful landscapes, and the new travel destination - the village of Pedoulas, spread among cherry trees, is a vivid confirmation of this. Perhaps this is one of the most beautiful places in the state, where tourists rush in the summer. Friendly people, clean mountain air, blooming gardens and trees, mild climate attract foreign visitors, and several museums, the Church of the Archangel Michael, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attract culture lovers.

Tourists speak with admiration of the village, which gives peace and tranquility. The special atmosphere of Pedoulas is ideal for getting away from the bustling cities and the hustle and bustle they create.

Lefkara

The village, located in the foothills, is famous for its embroiderers throughout sunny Cyprus. Tourists know that the most beautiful lace of the highest quality can be purchased in this quiet corner. Local needlewomen even developed their own embroidery,called "lefkaritika". Of course, lace products cannot be cheap, but the guests of the state are not embarrassed by the price. True, everyone who has visited the cozy village declares that the inhabitants love to bargain, and if you wish, you can drop the price by a third.

In addition, local needlewomen warn that real Lefkarian embroidery is done exclusively on beige canvases, not white, as tourists sometimes think.

Kikkos

High in the mountains, travelers dream of finding peace of mind and harmony, and ancient religious monuments, which Cyprus is proud of, help them in this. Troodos is rich in such structures, and dozens of temples are very popular. In remote places where there were no roads, residents found refuge, building monasteries, which are still perfectly preserved due to the fact that they were located in a safe place.

The main religious complex is Kykkos, protected by UNESCO. Founded at the turn of the 11th - 12th centuries, the building is famous for its belt that works real miracles, and women from all over the world who dream of a child come here to recover from infertility.

But the main treasure of Kykkos can rightfully be called an icon, handed over to a hermit monk by the emperor of Byzantium. This is one of the three shrines that the apostle Luke wrote with his own hand from the Virgin Mary.
