The Bauman Garden is a green oasis in the very center of Moscow. This is a great place to relax alone with yourself, for lovers who decide to spend a romantic evening, and for pensioners. During the day, you can meet young mothers with babies in strollers. Older children have fun playing on trampolines and playgrounds under the supervision of their parents.
History of Appearance
The park arose at the end of the 18th century, when Prince Golitsyn donated part of his estate - a garden - to Moscow. Anyone who wanted to could visit. A hundred years later, in 1900, the gardens of the estates of the Chulkovs-Rostopchins and Levashovs were attached to the park, and in 1920 the entire territory of the estate of the tea merchant and gold miner N. D. Stakheev was added to the park. From that moment on, this place began to be called the May 1 Garden. But after two years things have changed. In 1922, it was renamed the garden named after N. E. Bauman because of the proximity of the street of the same name.
Belvedere Grotto
At the very beginning of its existence, the park, on the orders of Prince Golitsyn, was created in the besttendencies of park art in England, Holland and France. However, after the revolution, as a result of vandalism, the beauty and grandeur of this garden almost disappeared. The decorative grotto Belvedere, the pearl of Stakheev's garden, was especially damaged. In Soviet times, a beer house and a barbecue house were opened here, which were closed only in the 90s. It was at this time that the authorities took the grotto under protection and restored it. The Bauman Garden itself was recognized as an object of cultural heritage and included in the Register of Architectural Monuments of Federal Importance. Now its area is about 5,000 hectares.
Besides the Belvedere grotto, there are many more attractions in the park. So, in Soviet times, around the 20-30s, an open summer stage was built, on which Leonid Utyosov performed. And to this day in Moscow there are no analogues of it. From the old layout, some park alleys planted with maples, lindens and poplars have been preserved. The beloved by many film "Pokrovsky Gates" was filmed here.
Infrastructure
Now the Bauman Garden is being actively improved. The old stage in the form of a shell was restored, the facades of many buildings were restored. Works on gardening of park are constantly carried out. Its infrastructure is growing and developing. Excellent conditions have been created for walking people with disabilities.
In this garden, you can not only walk, admire nature and meditate in silence. There are also activities for outdoor enthusiasts. For children there are playgrounds with swings, trampolines in differentparts of the park and even a large inflatable trampoline town. Toddlers during a walk in the park are rolled by a train. For all visitors of the garden, rental points for bicycles, roller skates, children's electric and velomobiles are open. There is a volleyball court and several tables for playing ping-pong, open lawns for playing badminton and frisbee. Paid Hatha yoga classes are held in a quiet corner of the park. At special tables, fans of checkers and chess will be able to find a worthy opponent.
There is a summer skating rink on the territory of the garden - a corner of winter under the open sky. Bringing your skates, you can skate for free all day from 11 am to 10 pm. Otherwise, you will have to pay to rent skates.
The park often hosts city entertainment events. Artists perform again on the renovated stage, various festivals (“Cha-Scha”, “Tel Aviv in Moscow”, etc.) and dance master classes are held. Flamenco classes are of particular interest to visitors.
In the warm season, in silence, you can enjoy reading your favorite book. It doesn't matter if she's not with her. The Nekrasov library opens an open-air reading room in the summer, and every Tuesday and Thursday teachers work with children and interesting quest games are held.
In the evening you can go dancing. Especially for these purposes, more than one covered veranda was built in different parts of the garden. There are several cozy and inexpensive cafes.
Another modern attraction of the garden is a summer cinema with 850 seats and a large LED screen, whereold Soviet and foreign films are shown, as well as new movies are shown.
