Comoros on the world map can be found in the Mozambique Channel (in its northern part). They are part of a small state. Its name is the Union of the Comoros. This state is located on the territory of the Comoros archipelago. At the same time, it includes three large islands. Their list includes Moheli, Grand Comore and Anjouan. The archipelago also includes the island of Mayotte, which is controlled by France. It is worth saying that there are volcanoes on the islands that still remain active.
Climate
Comoros are located in the tropical zone. The climate here is humid and quite hot. There are two distinct seasons. So, from November to April, the most humid and warm period is observed. The rest of the year is characterized by dry and cool weather.
The average monthly temperature in the Comoros is between twenty-four and twenty-seven degrees Celsius. During the year, 1100 millimeters of precipitation falls. More rain in the central regions. Up to 3000 mm of precipitation falls here.
Comoros is undesirable to visit during the wet season (November-April). At this time, there is a sweltering heat. At the same time, it is accompanied by almost one hundred percent humidity.
The Comoros is best for a holiday from May to October. During this cool season, the air temperature does not rise above twenty-five degrees. It is from May to October that an almost perfect climate reigns in most of the archipelago. During the cool season, the air is fresh with ocean trade winds and filled with scents of carnation blossoms, vanilla, cinnamon and ylang ylang. However, during this period, the weather sometimes deteriorates sharply due to the arrival of cyclones and monsoon winds from the ocean.
Nature
Comoros is known for its unique flora and fauna. Almost thirty-seven species of animals live here, many different plants grow that are not found anywhere else in the world. The most ancient forms of life on our planet were discovered in the waters of the coastal ocean.
Tropical forests grow on the tops of the mountain slopes of the Comoros, and bushes and savannahs are located below. Among agricultural crops, cloves and coffee trees, coconut palms and sugarcane, as well as bananas are cultivated here.
Among the representatives of the fauna of the Comoros, one of the rarest animals on earth stands out. It's about Livingston's bat. The rainforests are home to mongooses, lemurs and tenrecs. In the waters of the coastal ocean, coelocanths were caught. These are lobe-finned fish that were found in a distantantiquity (almost four hundred million years ago).
Reservoirs
The Comoros do not have permanent rivers. However, there are freshwater lakes here. They are located in the craters of inactive volcanoes.
A real natural monument is Sal Lake (S alt Lake). For many decades, it has attracted the attention of not only travelers, but also scientists who seek to unravel its mysteries.
Comoros. Grand Comore Map
In the northern part of this island you will find Lake Sal. It occupies the mouth of an already extinct volcano. No one can judge the depth of this reservoir with certainty. In this regard, it is also called the Bottomless. The uniqueness of the lake lies in the fact that it contains s alt water. Why? There is no single answer to this question. There is simply an assumption that the reservoir feeds the ocean. Another unique feature of the lake is the presence of a large amount of algae in it. Because of this vegetation, it changes its color twice during the day. In this case, the lake may appear dark green or shimmering blue.

This youngest city in the country is located on the island of Grand Comore. It is the capital of the state. There are a large number of mosques in Moroni. The oldest of them is Friday. This building is the most popular attraction in the capital of the Comoros. The Friday Mosque was built back in 1472. Coral limestone served as the material for the construction of the temple, which has retained its white color to this day. The appearance of the Friday Mosque clearly shows the bright features of Arab architecture. They are reflected in the two-tier archedgalleries, a high carved border around the perimeter of the roof, a minaret, balustrades and a green dome with a crescent on top.
Another attraction of Moroni is a bright and colorful bazaar. A popular place for excursions is the port of Medina. It is interesting to wander around the old Arab quarter, which will amaze tourists with its magnificent architecture.
Eleven kilometers south of Medina is the city of Mitsuje. It is well known for the woodworking workshops located on its territory. At the local market, you can buy caskets and various crafts. All of them are made from expensive woods that grow in the Comoros. Mitsuje is also famous for ancient tombstones decorated with elaborate ornaments. Locals believe that under one of them lie the remains of a saint who protects them from evil spirits.
The magnificent Sultan's Palace can be seen in Mutsamudu. Not far from the center of this city is the picturesque waterfall Dzyankundre.
Local population
Comorians are friendly and hospitable people. Many vacationers notice their shyness and modesty. Restrained orders dominate even in the malls, where the seller advertises, but by no means imposes his product.
It is a great honor for a guest to be invited to visit a local home. The hosts are given small gifts, but by no means money.
