The Russian city of Pechory is relatively small, but very beautiful. It is located on the border of the Russian Federation with Estonia. The history of this city goes back about 5 centuries.
City of Pechory
The city of Pechory (Pskov region) can be called a kind of book of historical adventures. Basically, the province does not cause much interest, but this cannot be said about Pechory at all. A large number of tourists from different cities of our country come to see this city with their own eyes.

What is the main attraction of the city?
The most famous landmark of the Pskov region, and Pechora in particular, is the oldest in Russia, the Pskov-Pechersk Holy Assumption Orthodox Monastery. This building is a monument of Russian culture and architecture. Initially, it was located in caves. The word "cave" in Old Russian sounded like "pechera". That is why the city began to be called Pechera. The oldest and most interestingthe buildings on the territory of the monastery are the Church of the Assumption and the Church of the Intercession.
If you follow the history, the town seems to "sprout" around the fortress walls of the ancient monastery.
Pechora, like many other cities in the Pskov region, is the owner of a huge number of temples and monasteries. Many pilgrims constantly come to this historical and spiritual place, as well as tourists who dream of touching the history of Russia.
The modern part of the city is called Maisky. It is also thoroughly permeated with the historical spirit. Not so long ago, a beautiful church was built here for the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ.

City Bottom
The city of Dno in the Pskov region is famous for many historical events. It is the regional center. This city has an ancient history.
Almost every event in the history of Russia in some way concerned the city of Dno. So, for example, in the winter of 1917, the Bolsheviks captured the royal train at the Dno station. It was at this station that Nicholas II left the throne.
The good location of this city in the Pskov region contributed to the construction of railways. The name Dno was assigned to the station. Later, a railway settlement was built near the station, which later received the status of a city and began to bear the name Dno.
City of Nevel
Another interesting settlement is the city of Nevel, Pskov region. He is considered the keeper of many of the most unusual secrets. The ancient Russian town of Nevel is located on the shores of Lake Nevel, on the border with Belarus. In ancient chronicles, "nevo" is a sea or a lake. That is why the city began to bear this name.
The history of Nevel in the 16th century is completely saturated with the spirit of war. In this city there were constant confrontations between 2 great powers - the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the State of Moscow. For 100 years, four wars took place in the city. At the same time, Nevel more than once passed from Russia to the Commonwe alth. It finally became a Russian city in 1772.
The industrial component of the city of the Pskov region Nevel has always been poorly developed. The main activity is trade and production of agricultural products.
Before the war in 1941, many nations peacefully coexisted in Nevel: Russians and Jews, Poles and Belarusians, Lithuanians and Germans. Having occupied the city in 1941, the Germans began executions of civilians, mostly Jews. In August 1941, the German command moved all the inhabitants of Nevel to the country park "Golubaya Dacha" and began executions of old people, women and children. First, the occupiers forced all the men to dig a large hole - a grave. Then they shot them.
Little children were dying before the eyes of their mothers, after which they shot at the entire female population. The bodies of a huge number of people lay in one pit. Somehistorians say that there is even evidence that many living people were thrown into it. And some eyewitnesses later said that it was at this place that the earth moved for several days. The total number of Jews killed was 2,000.
What else to see in Nevel?
Many historical and cultural places of the city demonstrate the events of that time. That is why you should definitely visit the Museum of History and feel that merciless time. The Museum of the History of the City of the Pskov Region Nevel is one of the first sights that you must visit in this city. In addition, attractions such as Golubaya Dacha, Sophia Kovalevskaya's Estate Museum and the Grebnitsky Estate are must-sees.
